There is no single best 1 TB cloud-storage plan for everyone. In the US, Microsoft 365 Personal is a verified fit if you want 1 TB for one person and will use its Office apps; Sync.com is an alternative for people who prioritize a provider that advertises end-to-end encryption. The right choice depends on renewal cost, privacy and recovery, sharing, apps, and whether you need a sync drive or a backup service.
What “1 TB cloud storage” can mean
A plan advertised as 1 TB may be a personal allocation, part of a larger household plan, or storage geared toward backups rather than everyday file collaboration. Compare what one person actually gets and how the service behaves—not just the headline capacity.
- Personal sync storage: Keeps files available across supported devices and may include sharing, collaboration, and file recovery.
- Household storage: May provide separate allocations for multiple people rather than one shared pool.
- Backup or archive storage: Can suit large collections that are rarely accessed, but download limits or charges to retrieve data may matter.
Cloud storage can also help keep files accessible across devices and provide a remote copy if a device is lost, as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission explains. A local external SSD can serve as an additional copy or help move files, but it does not provide remote access or synchronization. ACCC: Cloud storage
Best verified 1 TB options for different needs
Microsoft 365 Personal: 1 TB plus Office apps
Microsoft’s US plan page lists Microsoft 365 Personal at $99.99 per year or $9.99 per month, with 1 TB for one person. It also includes desktop Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote, and can be used on up to five devices at once. The subscription renews unless canceled. This is a stronger fit when the Office apps have value to you; it should not be treated as a standalone storage price. Microsoft 365 Personal (US plan details accessed October 7, 2026.)

Sync.com says its storage is end-to-end encrypted and that it cannot read customers’ files. That is the provider’s description, not an independent security audit. The company also describes file sync and backup, recovery, sharing, and access through Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and a browser. Sync.com secure cloud storage

How to decide which plan fits
If you already use desktop Office
Compare Microsoft 365 Personal with services you already use, and count the value of the included apps rather than comparing its subscription price with storage-only plans. Account for automatic renewal when estimating what you will pay over the period you expect to keep the plan.

If encryption is your priority
Sync.com is a candidate because it advertises end-to-end encryption. Before choosing it, review how its sharing and recovery features work for your needs, and distinguish the provider’s security claims from independently verified conclusions.
If you are buying for a household
Check whether capacity is pooled or assigned per person. Separate allocations can make ownership and file boundaries clearer than one household-wide bucket; Microsoft describes its Family plan as providing 1 TB per person for up to six people.

If you need long-term backup or archive storage
Do not assume that a consumer sync drive and a backup or object-storage service are interchangeable. For less frequently accessed data, check retrieval limits and any charges for downloading or moving data out. A July 2026 comparison discusses these considerations for object storage, but it is secondary evidence rather than a current, like-for-like pricing source. Cloudslinker’s cloud-storage comparison
