The BenQ TK700STi is a strong fit for console or PC gaming when you need a short-throw projector and can darken the room. Its mode-specific input lag is low, and BenQ specifies 4K UHD resolution. For movies, however, muted color and weak dark-scene contrast make it less compelling than its gaming performance suggests. It also lacks enough output to overcome substantial ambient light. The practical verdict depends on three things: whether it fits your room, whether you can live with its cinema image, and whether a discontinued model is available in acceptable condition.
What the TK700STi offers
BenQ specifies 4K UHD resolution (3840 × 2160), 3,000 ANSI lumens, a 0.9–1.08 throw ratio, and 1.2x zoom. These are manufacturer specifications; the lumen rating is not an independent brightness test. BenQ describes its 4K image as using pixel displacement, so it should not be described as native 4K.
The short-throw lens is intended to make a large image from a comparatively close position. The included QS01 Android TV dongle adds streaming functions, though Netflix has an important compatibility caveat covered below.
How well does it work for gaming?
Gaming is the TK700STi’s clearest strength. BenQ lists different input-lag figures for specific resolution and refresh-rate modes; they are not interchangeable measurements:

| Signal mode | BenQ-listed input lag |
|---|---|
| 4K at 60 Hz | 16.7 ms |
| 1080p at 120 Hz | 8.3 ms |
| 1080p at 240 Hz | 4.2 ms |
For the lowest listed lag, the source must output 1080p at 240 Hz. A 4K/60 Hz signal is still supported, but BenQ lists a higher lag for that mode. RTINGS describes the projector as a very good gaming choice, particularly for high-refresh-rate 1080p play. BenQ says consoles including Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox can connect over HDMI.
Is it good for movies?
It can handle movie viewing, especially in a dark room, but it is not as convincing for cinema as it is for gaming. RTINGS describes its movie performance as alright in a dark room and notes muted or inaccurate colors and weak contrast in dark scenes. Those limits are most likely to matter with shadow-heavy films or viewers who prioritize faithful color and deep blacks.

- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Although BenQ specifies 3,000 ANSI lumens, RTINGS says the projector does not have enough output to fight a lot of ambient light and recommends mostly dark conditions for the best experience. A bright-room installation should not be justified by the rated lumens alone.
RTINGS also notes that the projector has no official 1440p support and does not support Dolby Vision or HDR10+. BenQ’s FAQ says HDR10 and HLG signals are detected over either HDMI port. These are separate compatibility points: accepting HDR10 or HLG does not mean support for Dolby Vision or HDR10+.

Will it fit your room?
Throw distance and screen size need to be checked before buying. RTINGS says the TK700STi can produce a 100-inch image at 6.5 feet. BenQ gives a throw ratio of 0.9–1.08 and 1.2x zoom, but the required distance changes with the image size and lens adjustment. Measure from the projector lens to the screen position and verify the desired image size against the installation space; do not assume the 100-inch example applies to a different screen size.
If upgrading from another BenQ short-throw projector, recheck the mount position rather than assuming the existing ceiling location will produce the same screen size. The TK700STi’s throw range is its own, and the zoom adjustment is limited to 1.2x.

What 4K HDR signals are compatible?
BenQ’s FAQ states that the compatible 3840 × 2160 signal is supported at 24, 25, 30, 50, or 60 Hz. It also says HDR10 and HLG are detected over HDMI 1 or HDMI 2; both are HDMI 2.0b ports with HDCP 2.2. This describes accepted signal formats, not a guarantee that every connected device will choose the desired output automatically. Set the console or player to a supported resolution and refresh rate if handshake or image problems occur.

BenQ promotes Android TV apps such as Prime Video, Hulu, and YouTube through its smart setup, and RTINGS identifies the included QS01 dongle. BenQ says Netflix is not natively available on its smart home projectors and requires its recommended viewing procedure. Do not assume Netflix appears as a standard preinstalled app; check BenQ’s guidance for the intended setup before relying on the dongle for Netflix.

Lamp life and buying status
BenQ publishes different lamp-life estimates for different operating modes. These are mode-specific estimates, not a single guaranteed lifespan:
| Operating mode | BenQ-stated lamp life |
|---|---|
| Normal | 4,000 hours |
| SmartEco | 8,000 hours |
| ECO | 10,000 hours |
| LampSave | 15,000 hours |
ProjectorCentral lists the TK700STi as discontinued in April 2025. That does not establish whether a particular seller has stock, whether a listing is new or used, or what local support and accessory availability will be. Check the condition, return policy, warranty coverage, and lamp history for the actual unit. No current price or verified replacement-lamp part number is established here, so confirm the exact compatible lamp with BenQ or a seller before ordering.
Should you consider the TK700 instead?
RTINGS identifies two concrete differences: the TK700 does not have the TK700STi’s short-throw capability and does not include the BenQ QS01 dongle. That makes the STi the more relevant model when close placement or the bundled streaming device matters. The available comparison does not establish equivalent figures for every other performance category, so those two differences alone are not a complete basis for choosing between them.
Quick Recap
Who should buy it?
- Consider it if gaming responsiveness and short-throw placement matter more than cinema-grade color and dark-scene contrast, and you can use it in a mostly dark room.
- Look elsewhere if you need a projector that can overcome substantial ambient light, prioritize accurate movie color and deep blacks, or require official 1440p, Dolby Vision, or HDR10+ support.
- Verify before paying because the model is discontinued: confirm local availability, unit condition, warranty, and lamp compatibility with the seller or BenQ.
