ProtonVPN Plus is the overall winner in Test-Aankoop’s 2026 Belgian comparison, but it is not automatically the right VPN for every user. The consumer group tested eight paid services and assessed speed, device performance, features, ease of use, safety, privacy and price. This guide covers four relevant options from that test, not a claim that the group tested only four or ranked all four equally.
How these four VPNs compare
Test-Aankoop published its comparison on 24 February 2026. Its field included eight paid services, tested on Windows and macOS computers and Android and iOS devices. The four choices below reflect different priorities; the test’s rankings and observations are findings from that evaluation, not independent testing by this site.
| VPN plan | What Test-Aankoop reported | Best fit and key caveat |
|---|---|---|
| ProtonVPN Plus | Overall winner, with a score of 88/100 in the comparison’s explicit overall ranking. | A strong all-round option in the test. It could not access VRT MAX from abroad during the test. |
| Private Internet Access (PIA) | Marked Best Buy, described as the cheapest tested VPN, and named among privacy-oriented options. | Consider it if price and privacy are priorities, but the test found below-par speed on every server it tested. |
| Windscribe Pro | Third in the test’s top three; named among privacy-oriented and stronger streaming services. Test-Aankoop said it collected no data in its evaluation. | A candidate for privacy and streaming priorities. The data-collection finding applies to that test, not as a permanent guarantee. |
| ExpressVPN Advanced | Named by Test-Aankoop among its stronger streaming services. | Worth considering when streaming is central; the available findings here do not establish a comparable overall score or price advantage. |
Test-Aankoop also marked another tested service Best Buy, but this four-option selection does not reproduce the complete eight-service field. Read the full Belgian comparison for its complete ranking and findings.
Which one should you choose?
For the strongest overall result
ProtonVPN Plus is the clearest starting point if you want the comparison’s overall winner: Test-Aankoop gave it 88/100 in the explicit overall-ranking section. That score reflects the group’s criteria and test conditions; it does not mean every streaming service or region will work. In particular, VRT MAX was unavailable from abroad with Proton VPN during its test.

For streaming
Test-Aankoop listed Windscribe Pro, ExpressVPN Advanced and NordVPN Plus among its stronger streaming services. Streaming access is service-specific and can change, so treat these as results from the test period rather than a promise about a particular library, device or subscription. The VRT MAX result for Proton VPN is a concrete example of why the destination matters.
For speed
Among the options covered here, the material supports no equivalent claim of being the fastest; it does report that PIA was below par on every tested server. Do not assume a low subscription price implies similar performance to faster services.

For privacy
Test-Aankoop named Windscribe Pro, PIA and Proton VPN as options for readers with privacy priorities. It said Windscribe Pro collected no data in its evaluation. That is a comparative observation from one test, not proof of permanent behavior or complete anonymity. Using a VPN shifts some trust from an internet provider or network to the VPN provider; it does not make every online activity anonymous.
Check the actual cost, not just the advertised monthly figure
Test-Aankoop cautions that VPN prices fluctuate, longer subscriptions may receive discounts, and introductory rates can rise after the initial period. Compare the total amount payable for the term you plan to keep, plus the renewal price and included features, rather than choosing from a promotional monthly equivalent. No stable, comparable Belgian price is established here.

Need a Belgian IP address?
If you need websites or services to see a Belgian IP address while you are elsewhere, confirm that the plan offers a Belgium endpoint and that it is available for your intended use. NordVPN and Proton VPN publish Belgium-specific server pages: NordVPN’s Belgium server information and Proton VPN’s Belgian IP information. These are provider pages, not independent comparisons; the cited consumer test did not establish a consistent, independently verified server-count comparison.
Are free VPN plans enough?
Test-Aankoop did not include free VPNs in its paid-service test, so its rankings do not evaluate these plans on the same basis. Its article says Proton VPN Free provides unlimited data, while Windscribe Free allows up to 10 GB per month. Free plans commonly restrict server selection, features or data, making them more suitable for light use than for users who need a particular location or consistent streaming access.

What the 2026 comparison can—and cannot—tell you
The comparison is useful for a Belgium-based decision because it assesses both desktop and mobile clients across performance, usability, features, safety, privacy and price. Its results are still a snapshot: prices, streaming blocks, features and server availability can change after publication. Check current plan and renewal terms, the service’s app support for your devices, and whether the location you need is currently offered before subscribing.
