Bazaar is a GNOME-oriented app store for discovering and installing Flatpak apps and add-ons, with particular emphasis on Flathub. Its latest official release is version 0.9.6, released September 18, 2026. It is a focused software center—not a replacement for every distribution’s system package manager.
What is Bazaar for GNOME?
Bazaar is a free-software app store built around Flatpak remotes, especially Flathub. The GNOME app page describes it as a fast, modern Linux app store for discovering and installing Flatpak apps and add-ons. Its interface uses GTK 4 and Libadwaita, making it a natural fit for GNOME desktops; the project is licensed under GPL-3.0.
Because Bazaar focuses on Flatpak, it should not be confused with a universal Linux package manager. It is designed for finding and managing software available from Flatpak sources, rather than handling every package format or system-level package in a distribution.
What can you do with Bazaar?
Browse and queue transactions
You can queue multiple installations while continuing to browse. Project documentation also describes queued transactions for updates and removals, so you can manage several changes through a shared workflow rather than treating each operation as an isolated task.

Inspect app permissions
Bazaar lets you view an app’s permissions before or after installation. This helps make Flatpak access easier to inspect, though the permission view is information for evaluating an app—not a guarantee that the app is safe.
Use Flathub favorites and search
After signing in to Flathub, you can view and manage favorites from Bazaar. The app also supports searching apps directly from GNOME Shell, with desktop-search responses provided in the background.

Manage installed apps in the Library
A February 13, 2026 GNOME report describes a Library page that brings together the Installed page, update dialog, and transaction sidebar. It also reports that Bazaar can list, display, and uninstall user-scope Flatpaks. At the time of that report, installing new user-scope Flatpaks was not available in the Flatpak build; that limitation is time-specific and should not be assumed to describe later versions. See GNOME’s February 2026 report.
Explore curated pages and add-ons
Project documentation describes configurable curated pages and pages drawing on Flathub data, including latest and popular applications. Bazaar also supports Flatpak add-ons. The 0.9.6 Flathub release notes specifically list support for installing COSMIC applets and a “Made for COSMIC” category, alongside fixes for add-on-page clicks and search installation status.

What is the latest Bazaar version?
The latest official release listed by GNOME and Flathub is 0.9.6, released September 18, 2026. Flathub lists the app for x86_64 and aarch64, reports a 10 MiB download size and 41,627 downloads per month, and assigns it a Medium Risk label. These are Flathub’s published figures and rating, not an independent security assessment.
How to install Bazaar on Linux
For the stable release, use the Flathub listing for io.github.kolunmi.Bazaar. The listing is the documented stable distribution route; availability and Flatpak setup can depend on your Linux distribution.
GNOME also documents a nightly build for testing. Nightly builds may be incomplete, so GNOME advises backing up important data before using one. These commands install Bazaar from the configured GNOME nightly remote and then launch it:
-
Install the nightly build:

The practical difference is scope: Bazaar centers on Flatpak apps and add-ons, particularly those on Flathub. GNOME Software and other distribution software centers may also present distribution packages or other sources, depending on how the distribution configures them. The material available here does not establish a universal feature-by-feature comparison, so the right choice depends on which catalogs and workflows your system exposes.
- Choose Bazaar if you want a GNOME-oriented Flathub-focused interface, queued Flatpak transactions, permission inspection, favorites, GNOME Shell search, and a combined Library workflow.
- Check your distribution’s software center if you need broader system-package coverage or management of sources beyond Flatpak.
