Yes—an Azure credit expiring or a spending limit being reached can disable an Azure subscription and deallocate its virtual machines, which stops a YouTube stream running on that VM. Check the subscription’s state and the credit offer first; if Azure shows the subscription active and the VM running, investigate the guest operating system, streaming software, network, and YouTube separately. The timing alone does not prove which failure occurred.
1. Check whether Azure disabled the subscription
In the Azure portal, open Subscriptions and inspect the status of the subscription that owns the VM. Also review billing notifications. A disabled subscription can no longer create or manage Azure resources; Azure says its VMs are deallocated, temporary IP addresses are freed, and storage becomes read-only. That is enough to interrupt a stream hosted on the VM. Microsoft lists several possible reasons for a disabled state, including expired credit, a reached spending limit, an overdue bill, and a payment-card limit or disablement. Microsoft’s subscription-state guidance explains the status and its effects.
Do not assume credit expiry is the cause just because the stream stopped around the same time. Confirm the actual subscription status and billing notice before changing the VM or streaming configuration.

2. Check credit balance, expiry, and spending-limit rules
Find the credit details for the billing agreement
The exact navigation depends on the billing offer. For a Microsoft Customer Agreement, Microsoft documents this path: Azure portal > Billing > Payment methods > Azure credits. Review the available balance and the expiry date for each credit. Microsoft notes that the displayed available balance is after the last invoice; if it is zero, charges for eligible usage are charged through the billing account’s payment method. Use this path only if your account uses Microsoft Customer Agreement billing. See Microsoft’s instructions for checking Azure credits.

Tell spending-limit exhaustion from credit expiry
These are related but distinct cases. A spending limit can disable deployed services for the rest of the billing period after usage exhausts the limit; Microsoft’s example says virtual machines are stopped and deallocated. Some subscriptions with credits covering multiple months may be enabled again at the start of the next billing period. Eligible Azure free-account holders can upgrade to pay-as-you-go to remove the spending limit and re-enable the subscription. The available recovery depends on the offer, so check its terms rather than assume credits will renew. Microsoft explains how the Azure spending limit works.
Check whether the free-account offer applies
Microsoft’s free-account page describes an offer for eligible new users: $200 in billing-currency credit for the first 30 days. Under that offer, the subscription and services are disabled when the credit runs out or expires at the end of the period. This is not a universal Azure credit entitlement; other prepaid-credit offers can have different terms. Check Microsoft’s current free-account offer details.

3. Restore billing access before troubleshooting the stream
If the subscription is disabled, follow the portal’s billing notice and the instructions for your specific offer to resolve the cause. If it remains disabled after you update payment information, an outstanding balance may still need attention. Azure does not accept virtual or prepaid credit cards as subscription payment methods. If you deliberately canceled the subscription, its service-disablement and deallocation effects are separate from credit exhaustion; reactivation options depend on subscription type and timing. Microsoft’s subscription-restoration guidance covers disabled subscriptions, and its cancellation guidance covers canceled subscriptions.
Once the billing issue is addressed, verify the subscription is active and the VM’s resource status and power state. Do not assume that a previously deallocated VM or its stream process resumed automatically.

4. If the subscription is active, diagnose the VM start failure
If Azure shows an active subscription but the VM will not start, use the actual error rather than guessing. In the Azure portal, open the VM and check its Activity log; also inspect deployment operations when relevant to the failed start. Allocation failure is one documented cause of restart or resize problems, but the right response depends on the error recorded for this VM. If both the subscription and VM are healthy, Azure billing guidance does not establish why this particular YouTube stream failed. Check the VM’s operating-system logs and confirm the streaming application or scheduled process is running with its expected configuration. Then test outbound connectivity and inspect the stream’s status and error messages in YouTube. The operating system, streaming software, and YouTube error are specific to your setup; without those details, no single application setting can be identified as the cause.

6. Keep the next interruption from taking the stream offline
For a stream hosted on an Azure VM, monitor the subscription’s credit and billing state and plan for what happens when the offer’s balance or period ends. A cloud VM avoids depending on a home computer, but it does not prevent an Azure subscription from being disabled or remove the need to resolve billing issues.
