There is no single fixed AWS Elemental MediaPackage price for a 24/7 YouTube channel in India. MediaPackage live pricing is usage-based: AWS charges for video ingested and content originated and packaged, measured in gigabytes. Your estimate depends on input bitrates and redundancy, viewer delivery after CDN caching, the AWS region, and the rest of the streaming architecture. AWS publishes a worked 24/7 example for US East (N. Virginia), not an India quote. AWS lists a MediaPackage V1 live endpoint in Mumbai (ap-south-1), but the available pricing information does not establish current Mumbai rates or a tax-inclusive monthly total.
First check whether MediaPackage belongs in your design at all. For a straightforward encoder-to-YouTube stream, YouTube’s documented workflow uses its server URL and stream key; YouTube automatically transcodes the incoming live video. MediaPackage is an origin and packaging service for player and downstream CDN workflows, not a stated requirement for sending a feed directly to YouTube.
How MediaPackage charges for a live channel
MediaPackage does not charge a flat fee simply because a channel runs 24 hours a day. Its live cost has two main usage components, both measured by content volume:
- Ingest: the total volume of all input streams received by MediaPackage. Add the bitrates of every input rendition and any redundant input; more streams or higher bitrates increase the ingest volume.
- Origination and packaging: the volume of content MediaPackage sends to a CDN. This is not necessarily the same as total viewer traffic: CDN cache hits reduce how much content must be fetched from MediaPackage.
A 24/7 schedule increases the hours over which these volumes accumulate, but it does not determine the bill by itself. AWS recommends using CloudFront caching with MediaPackage to reduce the volume originated and packaged. The actual cache-hit ratio depends on the delivery design and audience.

What is known about pricing in India
AWS’s endpoints and quotas reference lists a MediaPackage V1 live endpoint in Asia Pacific (Mumbai), ap-south-1. That establishes regional endpoint availability; it does not establish the current Mumbai price, the currency shown on a particular account’s invoice, applicable taxes, or a monthly total. Check the current AWS pricing display for the service version you plan to use, and model the workload in the AWS Pricing Calculator with the Mumbai region selected.
AWS’s published worked example is explicitly for US East (N. Virginia). Its result must not be treated as an India price. AWS’s MediaPackage pricing page describes the metering model and example at AWS Elemental MediaPackage Pricing; the regional endpoint listing is in AWS Elemental MediaPackage endpoints and quotas.

AWS’s 24/7 example—and why it is not an India estimate
AWS illustrates its pricing with a 24/7 live-linear workload in US East (N. Virginia). Amazon Web Services’ example, for which the page does not state a publication year, assumes two channel inputs, five output renditions totaling 9.5 Mbps, a 2 Mbps average viewing bitrate, average viewership of 1,000 viewers per hour, and a 97.5% CDN cache-hit ratio. It calculates 4.175 GB per hour for the rendition set and 21.97 GB per hour originated after caching, then gives an estimated combined ingest and origination/packaging cost of $1.3505 per hour at the rates used in that US example.
Those figures are example assumptions and arithmetic, not a forecast for an Indian channel. A different region, current regional rates, bitrate ladder, redundancy plan, audience, viewing bitrate, cache-hit ratio, or MediaPackage generation changes the estimate. AWS also notes that delivery outside AWS or through a CDN other than CloudFront can involve additional internet data transfer charges; check how those charges apply to your planned route.

Inputs to gather before estimating a monthly bill
Use actual workload and architecture values rather than estimating from the label “24/7.” For an estimate, identify:
- Whether the design uses MediaPackage V1 or V2, and the AWS region.
- The number and bitrate of every input rendition, plus whether redundant inputs are used.
- The expected operating hours in the billing period.
- Average viewer bitrate and expected concurrent audience or viewing volume.
- The expected CDN cache-hit ratio and which CDN will serve viewers.
- Whether MediaLive inputs, outputs, or other add-ons are part of the workflow.
- CDN data transfer, account billing currency, and tax assumptions.
Without these inputs and verified current rates for the chosen region and version, a single monthly figure would imply more certainty than the available information supports.

Check whether a direct YouTube workflow needs MediaPackage
If your goal is simply to send a continuous encoder feed to YouTube, YouTube’s standard setup is to enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room in the encoder. YouTube recommends RTMPS as a secure connection option, automatically transcodes incoming live video for viewers, and advises creators to test and monitor stream health. Its published bitrate recommendations vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec; those are YouTube ingest recommendations, not MediaPackage prices.
The direct workflow does not, in the YouTube documentation cited here, make MediaPackage a required step. MediaPackage may belong in a larger design where you need an origin/packaging service for players and downstream CDNs. AWS’s live-streaming deployment guide also shows that a broader AWS architecture can include separately billed services such as MediaLive, MediaPackage, and CloudFront; those architecture examples are not a quote for your region or audience. Review YouTube’s encoder stream setup, encoder settings, and AWS’s Live Streaming on AWS deployment guide against your intended workflow.

V1 and V2 are not interchangeable price references
AWS MediaPackage V2 also describes per-GB charges for content received and streamed out. Its user guide says content cached and served from a CDN does not incur that per-GB MediaPackage charge. Confirm the generation used by your actual design and consult its corresponding current price page; do not carry V1 example rates or assumptions over to V2. See AWS MediaPackage V2 pricing.
