There is no single reliable monthly price for running a 24/7 YouTube channel with AWS Elemental MediaLive in India. The total depends on your AWS Region, channel class, inputs, outputs, add-ons and runtime—and MediaLive is only one part of a workflow that may also need packaging and delivery services. AWS’s published pricing examples cited here use US East (N. Virginia), not Mumbai, so they are not India quotes.
To estimate your bill, configure the actual workflow in the AWS Pricing Calculator, then verify GST against the billing entity, payer profile and invoice. AWS’s India tax guidance describes 18% GST for AWS India cloud-service sales to Indian customers, but billing circumstances can differ.
How AWS MediaLive charges for a 24/7 channel
AWS builds a MediaLive charge from the running channel’s inputs, outputs and enabled add-ons. A channel can continue to incur charges while running even when it is not receiving input or producing output. Idle-resource and data-transfer charges may also apply. Region and channel class
Choose the AWS Region where the channel will run. Mumbai may suit an India workflow, but the published examples discussed below do not establish a Mumbai rate. The calculator must use the actual Region. Channel class matters too: single-pipeline uses one processing pipeline in one Availability Zone; standard uses two pipelines in different Availability Zones for added resiliency. Their prices differ.

Inputs and runtime
Specify the number and type of attached inputs, their codec, resolution and bitrate, and how input switching will work. A running attached input can be billed even if it is inactive or not receiving content; switching behavior can affect how many inputs are charged. Push inputs may also incur idle-resource charges while unused, while AWS says pulled inputs do not incur that idle-input charge. A channel intended to run continuously accrues usage across its running hours.
Outputs and add-ons
Each configured output contributes to the cost. Its rate depends on codec, bitrate, resolution and frame rate. If frame rate is left to initialize from the source, AWS may provision the greater-than-30-fps pricing tier. Advanced audio, audio normalization and motion graphics can add per-channel charges.

Costs beyond MediaLive
MediaLive is not necessarily the whole streaming bill. Packaging and viewer delivery may involve separate services, including MediaPackage and CloudFront. Delivery costs depend in part on audience and bitrate, so a MediaLive-only subtotal should not be described as the full cost of a YouTube workflow. AWS’s Live Streaming on AWS deployment guide illustrates these as separate cost components.

What AWS’s published examples show
AWS’s pricing page gives a US East (N. Virginia) on-demand example of $3.942 per hour for a specified standard channel with two HEVC HD inputs, five AVC outputs and advanced audio. A related example lists $564.12 for a 30-day month under reserved pricing for a specified configuration with one input and a 12-month commitment, compared with $2,414.88 on demand for that same stated configuration. These are AWS examples for specified configurations in N. Virginia—not forecasts for an unspecified channel or prices for Mumbai. See AWS’s pricing examples.

The AWS deployment guide also shows MediaLive input and outputs at $1.99 per hour in its one-hour sample workflow. That sample is not a universal rate or an India estimate; its main lesson is that packaging, origination and CloudFront delivery are separate components that can materially add to a workflow total.
When reserved pricing may help
AWS advertises savings of up to 75% versus on-demand for inputs, outputs and add-ons with a 12-month commitment. “Up to” is a maximum advertised saving, not a guaranteed discount for your configuration. AWS says reserved pricing can be used for channels running more than 180 hours per month; reservations are charged for every hour of each month in the commitment and apply to matching component reservations. Compare the calculator’s on-demand estimate with applicable reservations before committing.

How GST applies to an AWS bill in India
AWS’s India tax guidance, last updated March 2026, says AWS India charges GST on its cloud-service sales to customers in India. It describes Delhi customers as paying 9% CGST plus 9% SGST, and customers in other states as paying 18% IGST. The same guidance distinguishes sales by Amazon Web Services, Inc. from outside-India sellers: it describes 18% IGST for non-business OIDAR customers and instructs registered business customers to update GSTIN and tax settings. For a simple illustration only where 18% GST applies to a taxable AWS subtotal, multiply that subtotal by 1.18. Delhi AWS India billing described above also totals 18% through CGST and SGST. This calculation does not determine whether GST applies to a particular account or whether a business can claim credit.
Build a defensible monthly estimate
- Describe the source: identify the device or software, input protocol, codec, resolution and bitrate. MediaLive’s FAQ lists supported input types, including RTMP push and pull; confirm the precise input configuration for your workflow.
- Define every output: list each output’s codec, resolution, bitrate and explicit frame rate. Avoid leaving a relevant frame-rate choice ambiguous if the source could exceed 30 fps.
- Choose Region and resiliency: select Mumbai or the actual deployment Region and choose single-pipeline or standard based on the resiliency you need.
- Add features and run hours: include required add-ons, continuous runtime, attached inputs and any idle push-input periods.
- Estimate MediaLive: enter that configuration in the AWS Pricing Calculator and note whether the result is on-demand or uses a 12-month commitment.
- Add the rest of the workflow: estimate required packaging, origin, storage, CDN and transfer services separately, using realistic audience and bitrate assumptions for delivery.
- Verify tax and scope: apply the billing treatment shown for the actual payer and label your result as either “MediaLive-only” or “whole workflow,” with Region, configuration, pricing basis and GST inclusion stated.
Do not publish a single exact INR total until you have a current Mumbai calculator estimate, checked the billing basis and confirmed the payer-specific tax treatment.
