The ASUS Zenbook A16 pairs a large 16-inch OLED screen with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme and a low manufacturer-listed weight. It has a strong case for demanding multi-core work, but it is not a universal MacBook beater: Tom’s Hardware measured lower Geekbench 6 single-core performance than the MacBook Air M5, and Windows-on-Arm compatibility remains a key buying consideration.

What is the ASUS Zenbook A16?

The Zenbook A16 UX3607 is a 16-inch Windows laptop ASUS announced on January 7, 2026. The launch configuration highlighted by ASUS uses Qualcomm’s 18-core Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme processor and an NPU rated at 80 TOPS. Those are not specifications to assume for every retail A16: processor and other configuration options can vary by SKU.

The model’s central appeal is the combination of a large OLED display and a chassis ASUS describes as lightweight for its size. ASUS lists a 16-inch 3K Lumina OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate on its U.S. product page. Its U.S. page gives a weight of 2.65 lb (about 1.20 kg) for the specified model, while the global launch announcement gives 1.2 kg. ASUS also lists a lighter non-touch configuration, so check the exact screen and SKU when comparing weights. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. How fast is it compared with a MacBook?

Performance depends on the kind of work. In Tom’s Hardware’s Geekbench 6 testing of its Zenbook A16 review unit, the laptop scored 3,807 in single-core and 22,733 in multi-core. The same review reports a 4,168 single-core result for the MacBook Air M5. That result favors the MacBook in this particular single-core comparison; it does not establish that one laptop is faster in every application or workload. PCWorld characterizes multi-threaded CPU performance as a strength of the A16. That makes the chip potentially appealing for workloads that can make use of multiple cores, but benchmark results are not a substitute for performance in the specific apps you rely on. A fair buying comparison should use the same application and a similar task, while accounting for the exact processor and configuration in each laptop. PCWorld’s Zenbook A16 coverage.

Is it genuinely lightweight, and what is the screen like?

At ASUS’s U.S.-listed 2.65 lb, the A16 is notable for a 16-inch laptop, particularly if you want a large workspace without carrying a heavier machine. The manufacturer’s launch figure is 1.2 kg, but actual listed weight depends on the configuration; confirm whether the retailer’s unit has a touch or non-touch display before using weight as a deciding factor.

ASUS specifies a 3K Lumina OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Those are manufacturer-listed specifications. The larger panel may suit users who prefer more screen area for documents, creative work, or side-by-side windows, but screen size alone does not determine display quality or battery life in your own use.

How long does the battery last?

ASUS advertises more than 21 hours, but that figure is a manufacturer test result, not a promise of everyday runtime. ASUS says its video-playback test was conducted in November 2025 on a 70 Wh configuration with 48 GB of RAM, a 2 TB SSD, and a 3K OLED screen. The stated conditions included Wi-Fi enabled but not connected, balanced power mode, and 150 cd/m² brightness. Runtime can differ with wireless use, screen brightness, applications, and the exact configuration. ASUS battery-test details.

Use the 21-plus-hour claim as a result under ASUS’s specified playback conditions, rather than as an independently verified estimate for mixed work, video calls, or sustained demanding tasks. The available figure does not establish how the A16 compares with a MacBook in a like-for-like independent battery test.

Will your apps, peripherals, and games work?

The A16 runs Windows on Arm, so compatibility deserves attention alongside processor speed. PCWorld flags app compatibility as a consideration, and Tom’s Hardware reports problems running a game during its testing, including a crash or settings issue and visual defects. Those observations do not mean every app or game will fail; they do show why buyers should check their own requirements rather than assume compatibility from the Windows name alone.

What are the build and price trade-offs?

Tom’s Hardware describes the chassis of its reviewed A16 as flimsy. That is an assessment of the review unit, distinct from the processor’s benchmark performance; if rigidity matters to you, inspect the laptop in person when possible or consult reviews of the exact configuration you are considering.

Who should buy the Zenbook A16?

The A16 is worth considering if you want a light-for-its-size 16-inch Windows laptop, value its OLED display, and have workloads that benefit from strong multi-core CPU performance. Its appeal is less certain if your priority is the best single-core result in the cited comparison, a rigid chassis, gaming without compatibility checks, or guaranteed runtime matching ASUS’s controlled playback test.

Before buying, compare the exact A16 SKU against the alternatives you are considering. Focus on performance in your own applications, Arm support for your software and peripherals, display configuration and weight, comparable battery testing, and like-for-like memory, storage, warranty, and regional price. The evidence supports calling the A16 a compelling large-screen Snapdragon laptop—not a clear winner over every MacBook.
