Its hot-swappable switches and included maintenance tools make customization practical, but the tall profile, lack of a numpad, and high price will not suit everyone.
What makes the ROG Azoth feel smooth?
The Azoth borrows construction ideas from custom mechanical keyboards rather than relying only on gaming-board styling. ASUS describes its switches as pre-lubed, with ROG-tuned force curves. The board also uses a silicone gasket mount, three layers of dampening, and pre-lubed stabilizers on longer keys. RTINGS reports that these components improve the keyboard’s sound and feel.
In practice, the design aims to reduce harshness and friction: the switches arrive lubricated, the stabilizers are less scratchy, and the gasket and dampening layers soften the typing experience. TechRadar described typing on it for emails, articles, and games as responsive and satisfying, and found the ROG NX switches fast without being too loud. Those are review impressions, not a guarantee that every typist will prefer the feel; switch preference is personal.
What does the OLED screen and knob do?
The compact board makes a visual statement with its metal top cover, per-key RGB, OLED panel, and three-way control knob. ASUS announced a 2-inch OLED display for the Azoth in 2023. Depending on the selected display mode, it can show keyboard status, Caps Lock, connection mode, PC or Mac mode, battery, multimedia information, custom animations, and system parameters such as CPU temperature. The knob provides a physical control alongside the display, while the lighting and screen make the board more conspicuous than a plain office keyboard.

How does it connect, and what is the battery claim?
The Azoth supports three connection types: wired USB, Bluetooth, and 2.4 GHz RF wireless. ASUS says Bluetooth can connect to three devices simultaneously. ASUS also advertises up to 2000+ hours in 2.4 GHz mode with both RGB and the OLED switched off. That figure is a manufacturer claim under those specific low-power conditions, not an independently verified endurance result; using the lighting and display changes the stated conditions.
Is the Azoth good for gaming, work, and everyday typing?
Its compact 75% layout retains a broad set of keys while taking up less desk space than a full-size board. RTINGS reports excellent build quality and exceptionally low latency, and says the sound and feel are higher quality than those of many prebuilt gaming keyboards. TechRadar also found it responsive in both work and game use. Together, those reports make the Azoth a plausible all-purpose choice if you want one keyboard for typing and gaming, rather than a board dedicated to only one task.

There are ergonomic and layout compromises to weigh. RTINGS warns that the keyboard’s high profile can become tiring without a wrist rest. The 75% layout has no numpad, and TechRadar notes that there are no dedicated macro buttons. If you frequently enter numbers, rely on hardware macro keys, or prefer a low typing angle, those omissions may matter more than the premium materials and display.
Can you replace the ROG Azoth switches?
Yes. The Azoth’s PCB is hot-swappable, so you can remove its switches and install compatible replacements without soldering. RTINGS lists three ROG NX switch variants: linear Red, tactile Brown, and clicky Blue. Check the exact switch listing and keyboard compatibility before buying replacements; hot-swap support does not mean every switch is automatically compatible.

ASUS includes three extra switches, a keycap puller, a switch puller, a switch opener, a lube rack, and Krytox GPL-205-GD0 lubricant. - Consider it if you want a compact wireless board with a damped, pre-lubed typing feel, strong reported gaming responsiveness, and visible controls you can personalize.
- Look elsewhere if you need a numpad or dedicated macro buttons, want a lower-profile setup, or do not value the OLED and custom-style construction enough to justify a high price.
- Plan for comfort if you type for long stretches: the tall build may call for a wrist rest, depending on your desk and posture.
The Azoth’s appeal is the combination: refined-feeling typing, tri-mode connectivity, hot-swap customization, and a display that is both functional and decorative. Its standout extras are worth considering only if you will use them; the missing numpad and tall profile are everyday trade-offs.
