The Asus EeeTop ET2002 is a 2009 all-in-one best understood as a compact second PC and local-video machine—not a capable everyday desktop or gaming system. Its dual-core Atom processor feels slow by modern standards, while NVIDIA ION graphics help it play downloaded HD video. The standard ET2002 has no touchscreen; that feature belongs to the ET2002T.
What the Asus EeeTop ET2002 includes
The ET2002 combines a computer and a 20-inch, 16:9 display in a glossy black enclosure with a spring-loaded rear stand. Its panel resolution is 1,600 × 900, so it can show HD content but cannot display a 1920 × 1080 image at native resolution. The standard model is not touch-enabled.
Core hardware is a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom 330 processor, NVIDIA ION graphics, 2GB of DDR2 memory and a 250GB or 320GB 5,400rpm SATA II hard drive, depending on configuration. It also has a tray-loading Super Multi optical drive, webcam, digital microphone, wireless keyboard and mouse. HotHardware’s specifications list six USB ports, a 3-in-1 card reader, gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and HDMI input. HotHardware’s ET2002 specifications and SlashGear’s review describe the hardware and connections.
How fast is the Atom 330 in everyday use?
Expect netbook-class processing, not the responsiveness of a conventional desktop. PCWorld measured a WorldBench 6 score of 37 in its 2009 review. SlashGear later reported a GeekBench score of 1226 for its ET2002 test and noted pauses when opening applications and sluggish multitasking with several browser windows, background media playback and Office running. Those period benchmarks are not direct comparisons with current computers, but the observed delays make the system’s limits clear.

- 16GB DDR5 RAM and 1TB PCIe SSD storage for snappy experience
- 1080p Full HD Camera with built-in array microphone and speakers powered by Dolby Atmos
PCWorld’s verdict was that the system’s performance and display quality were not sufficient for a quality experience. At the roughly $600 price cited in reviews of the period, that was a significant drawback: PCWorld preferred the HP Pavilion MS214 for speed and picture quality. SlashGear, by contrast, saw a role for the ET2002 as a second computer or a kitchen- or bedroom-based media system.
Can the ET2002 play HD video?
Yes, particularly when video is stored locally and the playback software can use ION’s graphics acceleration. SlashGear reported very good playback of downloaded 1080p files and DVDs; Liliputing also found downloaded 1080p video played smoothly. The display itself remains 1600 × 900, so a 1080p file is not shown at its full native resolution.

Browser video is a different case. Period reviews report choppy full-screen HD Flash video, including dropped frames and jagged edges on YouTube HQ/HD and Hulu when Flash could not use GPU acceleration. ION therefore makes the ET2002 more useful as a local-media player than as a reliable way to stream demanding web video.
Is it suitable for gaming?
No, not for games that demand sustained 3D performance. In PCWorld’s 2009 Unreal Tournament 3 test, the ET2002 managed 10 frames per second at 1024 × 768 with high-quality settings. That result was effectively unplayable. ION’s useful role here is video decoding, not turning this Atom-based all-in-one into a gaming PC.

Display, touch and connections
Reviews describe the screen as bright and crisp for 720p content, but PCWorld found its color saturation and contrast weaker than the similarly priced HP Pavilion MS214, with images appearing duller and more muted. The 20-inch glossy panel and built-in stand make for a tidy setup, but screen quality is a compromise rather than a selling point.
The standard ET2002 does not have a touchscreen. Asus sold the ET2002T as a separate touch variant; do not assume a listing labeled ET2002 includes touch capability. The HDMI port is an input, allowing the unit to serve as a display for another video source, subject to the panel’s 1600 × 900 resolution. Six USB ports, gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n Wi-Fi are practical connectivity strengths for a machine of its age.

Only consider one if you specifically want an inexpensive vintage all-in-one for light tasks or locally stored video and are comfortable with its limitations. The period reviews placed it at about $600: PCWorld listed that price as of February 1, 2010, while SlashGear gave an approximate $600 MSRP. Those are historical prices, not a guide to current used value. The cited reviews do not establish present-day availability, modern operating-system support or the condition of any individual machine.

For a used unit, make completeness and working condition the deciding factors. Check the hard drive, optical drive, screen, stand, wireless keyboard and mouse, and the correctly rated 19V power adapter. Before buying replacement memory, storage or an adapter, verify the exact module type, connector, drive thickness and power requirements against the individual unit and the seller’s listing. PCWorld noted that ASUS did not provide replacement instructions, so do not assume upgrades or repairs will be straightforward.
Against a newer used all-in-one, compare the processor’s responsiveness, screen and touch capability, the kind of video you intend to play, available ports and networking, and the complete cost of a working setup. A newer mainstream dual-core system will generally be a more sensible choice for everyday applications; the ET2002’s case is its integrated design and local-media capability, provided the unit is complete and priced accordingly.
