Choose the ASTRO A50 Gen 5 if you want to connect and switch among three gaming systems from the headset. Its PLAYSYNC Audio feature is the clearest practical difference. The A50 Gen 4 remains a possible fit if its built-in MixAmp game/voice controls or Gen 4-specific accessories matter to you—but check the exact console version, price, condition, and availability before buying.
What are the main differences?
| Feature | ASTRO A50 Gen 4 | ASTRO A50 Gen 5 | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| System connections and switching | Sold in Xbox/PC and PlayStation/PC versions. Includes MixAmp game/voice balance. | PLAYSYNC Audio connects and switches among three systems using a headset button. Logitech lists Xbox, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch among supported platforms. | Gen 5 suits a setup where you regularly move between multiple systems. With Gen 4, match the headset version to your platform. |
| Audio features | Logitech names ASTRO Audio V2 and describes Dolby Audio and Dolby Atmos. | Logitech highlights PRO-G GRAPHENE drivers and 24-bit LIGHTSPEED wireless. | These are different feature descriptions, not proof that one headset sounds better. |
| Microphone | Unidirectional flip-to-mute microphone. | Logitech specifies a 48 kHz microphone and advertises broadcast-quality sound. | Gen 5 has the more explicitly specified microphone capture feature in these product descriptions; that is not an independent microphone test. |
| Battery life | Logitech claims 15+ hours. | A comparable battery-life figure was not stated in the Gen 5 product-page content reviewed. | The available figures do not establish a battery-life winner. |
| Software | ASTRO Command Center. | Logitech G HUB and Logitech G App. | Use the utility intended for your headset generation. |
| Accessories | The optional Mod Kit is Gen 4-only. The Gen 4 base station works only with a Gen 4 headset; Logitech says an HDMI adapter is available for PS5 compatibility. | Uses a different base station and product system. | Do not assume Gen 4 and Gen 5 accessories or base stations interchange. |
Which one should you choose?
Choose the A50 Gen 5 for multi-system switching
PLAYSYNC Audio is the decisive reason to choose Gen 5 if you want one headset setup connected to three gaming systems and the ability to switch from the headset. Logitech specifically lists Xbox, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch among supported platforms. Confirm that your particular combination of devices and connections meets your needs on the A50 Gen 5 product page.
Consider the A50 Gen 4 for MixAmp controls or Gen 4 accessories
Gen 4 may be the better fit if its built-in MixAmp game/voice balance is important to you, or you specifically want the optional Mod Kit. Logitech says that Mod Kit is “Only compatible with A50 Wireless Gen 4.” Its base station is likewise limited to Gen 4 headsets, so check the generation before purchasing a replacement or spare.

Logitech describes separate Xbox/PC and PlayStation/PC versions of the Gen 4. The US product page says an HDMI adapter is available for PS5 compatibility; verify the precise adapter and setup requirements for your intended console on the Gen 4 product page. The reviewed Logitech page showed the headset temporarily sold out, so verify current stock rather than treating that status as permanent.

Do the feature lists show which sounds better?
No. Logitech names ASTRO Audio V2, Dolby Audio, and Dolby Atmos for Gen 4, while Gen 5 emphasizes PRO-G GRAPHENE drivers and 24-bit LIGHTSPEED wireless. Those descriptions identify features, but they do not establish a sound-quality winner. The reviewed product information contains no independent listening comparison, so choose based on connectivity and controls unless you can assess the sound yourself.
