If Astra says your stream is online but YouTube shows offline, the two status messages may be reporting different things. Astra’s status alone does not confirm that YouTube is receiving video for the correct stream or that a scheduled broadcast has been started. Check the selected YouTube event and its stream URL and key first, then follow the feed through YouTube’s preview, your encoder, and your outgoing internet connection.
“Astra Streaming” can refer to different products, and the available information does not establish which one you mean or how it connects to YouTube. The steps below use YouTube’s general encoder-streaming guidance; they are not an Astra-specific fix.
First, identify which Astra product and setup you are using
The name alone is not enough to diagnose the mismatch. DataStax Astra Streaming is a serverless event-streaming service powered by Apache Pulsar, while Astra Streaming Studio is a separate Android video-streaming app. The product references do not establish that either one is responsible for this particular YouTube status issue.

Before changing settings, note the Astra app or service name and version, the encoder or protocol sending the video, and whether you chose a scheduled broadcast or an instant stream in YouTube. An encoder is an app, program, or tool that captures and compresses a live stream, according to YouTube Help.

Check that YouTube is showing the right stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Select the intended broadcast. Make sure it is the same event you configured in Astra or the encoder; a different event can have a different stream URL and key.
- Compare the stream URL and key shown for that event with the values configured in the sending app or encoder. YouTube explains that a stream key tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it; treat it like a password and do not share or publish it. See Manage live stream settings.
- If the encoder reports a startup error, YouTube recommends creating a new stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder with it. Keep the replacement key private, too. Follow YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting steps.
Use YouTube’s preview to locate the break
Look at the preview for the selected event in Live Control Room. The distinction matters: an incoming encoder feed or preview is not necessarily the same as a public broadcast that has been started.
- No preview: YouTube is not showing the incoming feed for that event. Recheck the event, URL and key, then inspect the encoder and outgoing connection.
- Preview appears, but the scheduled broadcast is not live: follow YouTube’s scheduled-stream instructions and select Go live when appropriate. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers waiting for the preview and starting the broadcast.
- The preview is present but looks or sounds wrong: troubleshoot the encoder’s video and audio output before assuming the YouTube event is offline.
Inspect the encoder and outgoing connection
- Check the encoder’s own output. Confirm it is sending the intended audio and video, and look for error messages or a startup failure. YouTube advises using the latest encoder version and checking encoder errors and CPU load. If the feed is unhealthy, update the encoder or consider testing with another encoder.
- Check the internet path to YouTube. If the encoder output looks healthy but YouTube still has no preview, test outbound internet connectivity. If the connection test points to a problem, YouTube advises contacting your internet service provider.
- Report the exact state if it remains unresolved. Record the YouTube Live Control Room status or error, the Astra product and version, and the connection method. Contact support for the identified Astra product; do not assume that different products called Astra share a support route. You can also report a continuing streaming problem to YouTube Help.
A speed test by itself cannot confirm that you selected the right YouTube event or entered its matching stream key. Likewise, do not buy a cable, capture card, router, or other hardware until you have identified a specific hardware or network fault; YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance focuses first on event selection, key and encoder configuration, encoder health, and the outbound connection.
