Nintendo describes the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Resident Evil Requiem Edition as gunmetal black with in-world newspaper articles. Its listing does not provide an edition-by-edition technical comparison with the standard Switch 2 Pro Controller, so it does not confirm whether the two are internally identical or different.
What is different about the Resident Evil Requiem Edition?
Nintendo’s US accessories page lists both a standard Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and the Resident Evil Requiem Edition. The edition’s description calls out its “gunmetal-black visual design with in-world newspaper articles that capture the dark and immersive atmosphere of Resident Evil Requiem.” That establishes a documented appearance difference from the standard listing.
It does not establish a difference in the controller’s electronics, materials, buttons, firmware, or performance. Nintendo does not publish a model-specific technical comparison between the edition and the standard controller on the cited listing. What features does Nintendo list for the standard Switch 2 Pro Controller?
Nintendo’s standard product listing names HD rumble 2, motion controls, built-in amiibo functionality, a Capture Button, a C Button for GameChat, mappable GL/GR buttons, and Switch 2-only use. The listing does not compare these features model by model with the Resident Evil Requiem Edition. That means it neither proves the edition lacks any of them nor confirms every specification is the same.

These controls can be easy to confuse with changes made between controller generations. Nintendo’s support comparison says the Switch 2 Pro Controller adds the front C Button and rear GL/GR Buttons, and has a lighter top panel compared with the original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Those are differences between the Switch 2 and original Switch generations—not evidence of differences between the standard and Resident Evil-themed Switch 2 controllers. Are colored Joy-Con 2 controllers different from standard ones?
Nintendo also lists Light Purple / Light Green Joy-Con 2 controllers. The listing describes HD rumble, motion controls, mouse controls in compatible games, and a C Button on the right controller. It does not establish a feature difference between this color option and standard Joy-Con 2, so the color listing alone is not evidence of a distinct feature set. Do original Switch controllers work with Switch 2?
This is a separate compatibility question from whether a special edition has different internals. Nintendo says original Joy-Con can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but cannot attach to the console. Joy-Con 2 attach magnetically, while original Joy-Con use rails with the earlier Switch. Nintendo also says original Joy-Con grips do not fit Joy-Con 2. These generation and accessory-fit differences do not establish a hardware difference between special-edition and standard Joy-Con 2.
