Yes, if your commute is relatively quiet and you want lightweight, foldable on-ear headphones with exceptionally long battery life. No, if you need active noise cancellation (ANC) or strong isolation from buses, trains, or aircraft. Major V’s pads sit directly on your ears, so fit is personal; try them on if you are sensitive to ear pressure or wear glasses.
Who should consider the Marshall Major V?
Major V makes the most sense for everyday listening, desk use, and quieter walks or commutes. Its foldable design and low listed weight of 186 g (6.56 oz) make it a portable alternative to bulkier over-ear headphones. Marshall includes a 3.5 mm audio cord as well as a USB-C charging cable, and the headphones support Bluetooth multipoint for two connected devices.
If those trade-offs suit you, see the Marshall Major V product page for regional product details. Its lack of ANC is important: these headphones are not designed to cancel the steady noise of transit.
Is Major V suitable for a noisy commute?
No, not if ANC or substantial noise reduction is a priority. Marshall lists active noise cancellation as absent. The on-ear pads provide passive isolation only, and SoundGuys judged the headphones a poor fit for long, noisy commutes. Do not rely on raising the volume to overpower traffic or transit noise.
#1 Best Overall
- MARSHALL SIGNATURE SOUND: Experience powerful bass, smooth mids and crisp treble that are expertly balanced.
- 100+ HOURS OF WIRELESS PLAYTIME: Listen to your favourite music for days without needing to charge.
- RUGGED AND FOLDABLE DESIGN: Major V is built to last and to be easily packed away with you wherever you go.
- CUSTOMIZABLE M-BUTTON: Instantly access Spotify Tap or your EQ settings or voice assistant at the press of a finger.
- WIRELESS CHARGING: Experience quick charging without the hassle of wires.
For a quiet walk or a commute where outside sound is manageable, the lack of ANC may be acceptable. For a loud bus, train, or flight, compare headphones that offer ANC and evaluate their fit and isolation for your actual use.
How comfortable and portable are they?
Major V is an on-ear model, meaning its pads rest on the ears rather than surrounding them. SoundGuys described the cushioning as substantial but observed low clamping force and movement when shaking the head. Those are findings from one review, not a guarantee of how the headphones will fit you. If you are sensitive to ear pressure, wear glasses, or listen for long stretches, try them on before committing when possible.
Marshall lists the weight as 186 g; SoundGuys recorded 187 g. The design folds for storage, but SoundGuys noted that no carrying case is included in the box. That makes them easy to pack, though you may want a separate protective pouch.

What to expect from battery life and charging
Marshall rates Major V for “100+ hours of wireless playtime.” That is a manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed result. In a two-week review test, SoundGuys measured 92 hours and 52 minutes—close to, but below, the rated figure—and noted that listening level and EQ settings affect battery life.
Marshall says a 15-minute charge provides 15 hours of playtime and a full recharge takes three hours. Wireless charging is supported. SoundGuys found pad placement on a wireless charger unreliable in its test, so USB-C is the more predictable option when you need a dependable charge.
Sound, controls, and everyday connections
SoundGuys characterized the default sound as treble-heavy and recommended using EQ to reach its preferred sound. Marshall’s optional app allows EQ customization and configuration of the M-button; it also provides updates and battery-preservation options. You can use the headphones without the app for basic listening.

For wireless use, Major V has Bluetooth 5.3 and supports multipoint, letting it connect to two devices at once. The manual says it can remember up to 10 previously paired devices. For wired listening, the included 3.5 mm cord connects to the headphone input/output. Marshall lists SBC, AAC, and LC3 codecs, a microphone and remote, and a stated wireless range of 10 m (30 ft).

What to compare before you buy
Major V’s current regional price, stock, and repair-program terms are not established here, so check those directly before purchasing. When comparing it with another model, focus on the differences that affect your routine:
- Noise control: Does the alternative offer ANC or stronger isolation for your commute?
- Fit: Do you prefer on-ear pads, or do over-ear headphones suit you better?
- Portability: Compare weight and folding, and check whether a case is included.
- Battery: Distinguish manufacturer ratings from independent test results.
- Sound: Check whether the default tuning suits you and whether EQ is available.
- Connections: Confirm multipoint and a wired fallback if you need them.
- Price: Compare current prices in your region rather than relying on an old listing.
Verdict
Marshall Major V is worth considering for casual everyday listening and quieter commutes if you like an on-ear fit, value portability, and want long battery life plus wired and multipoint options. Skip it for noisy travel if ANC or strong isolation is essential. For an independent two-week assessment of fit, sound, and charging, read the SoundGuys Marshall Major V review.
