Some Limited Run Games releases have a stated copy cap; others are sold through a preorder open for a limited time. There is no single number or sellout schedule that applies to every release. Check the specific product page for its copy limit, preorder deadline, and current availability before deciding whether to wait.
Does “Limited Run” mean every release has a fixed quantity?
No. Limited Run Games says qualifying preorder products are manufactured to demand after the preorder period closes. The company explains that it cannot begin final manufacturing until then, and its support page says production begins after a preorder window ends. That describes the production process; it does not establish a universal edition-wide cap. Limited Run Games’ FAQ and its order support guidance explain the preorder process.
Individual listings can set different terms: some specify a maximum number of copies, while others state that the preorder is open only until a deadline. The brand name alone does not tell you which applies.

What can make a release sell out?
A stated copy cap
Some listings explicitly give a maximum quantity. For example, the official listing for Switch Limited Run #26: Another World states that the region-free physical Nintendo Switch cartridge is limited to 1,000 copies; the page also reports that it is sold out. This is evidence about that release, not a standard cap for other games. Check the product listing for its stated limit and availability.

A preorder deadline
Other releases are described as open preorders for a limited time. The official PS5 listing for I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream gave a closing date of December 7, 2025. The Switch 2 listing for High On Life gave a closing date of March 1, 2026. These are dated examples, not current offers; they show why the product page’s own deadline matters. A listing may also show that a product is currently sold out. Availability and deadlines can change, so a past preorder window or sold-out status should not be treated as a prediction for another release.

Could sold-out stock appear later?
Possibly, but it is not guaranteed. In a February 5, 2025 announcement, Limited Run said it may order extra units to cover damage, replacements, convention stock, and manufacturing minimums. When manufacturing is complete and enough units remain, some items may be offered through its rotating Vault. The company cautions that Vault stock can be very limited and sell out quickly. A later Vault listing is therefore a possibility, not a dependable restock plan. Read the Vault announcement.
How to check a release before deciding to wait
- Open the exact product listing. Look for an explicit copy limit, wording that describes an open preorder, and the current availability label.
- Note the preorder closing date and time, if shown. A time-limited preorder can close even if you have not seen a copy cap stated.
- Compare the terms of the releases you are considering. A stated cap, a deadline, current stock status, and documented Vault availability are distinct facts; do not infer one from another.
- For a collector edition you have already ordered, check the production status separately. Limited Run’s status tracker describes stages such as design, sampling and approval, production, final assembly, and manufacturing complete. Check the production status tracker.
There is no supported universal formula for predicting when a release will sell out or what it will be worth on the resale market. The product page can establish a cap, deadline, or current status; the name “Limited Run” cannot establish a sellout date.

Does a long shipping estimate mean the preorder is still open?
No. The purchase window and the manufacturing and delivery timeline answer different questions. Limited Run’s support guidance gives general estimates of within four months for standard editions and up to ten months for collector editions, depending on complexity. These are fulfillment estimates after ordering, not promises about how long a preorder will remain available. See the support guidance.
