No—not all iPhone pentalobe screws are the same or safe to swap. Several models use the same general five-point drive, and iFixit specifies a P2 driver for its iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 guides. But repair guides document different screw lengths, so check your exact model before buying replacement screws or opening the phone.
What “the same” means for iPhone pentalobe screws
Pentalobe describes the five-point drive shape. P2 is the driver designation used in the cited iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 repair guides. Sharing that drive or tool specification does not prove that screws from different models have the same dimensions or can be exchanged safely.

The examples demonstrate why a shared drive label is not enough to identify a replacement. They are individual repair-guide specifications, not a complete catalog of iPhone screw sizes.

The iPhone 13 and 14 guides both specify 6.8 mm screws, but that does not make the measurement universal. The other guide PDFs document shorter examples, and the available sources do not provide a complete model-by-model compatibility chart.

How to choose the right driver and replacement screws
- Identify your exact iPhone model. Do not rely only on its generation name or the appearance of a loose screw.
- Find a repair guide for that specific model and confirm the driver designation and screw dimensions. For example, the iFixit iPhone 14 guide, created using model A2882, says: “Use a P2 pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm-long screws on either side of the charging port.”
- Use a P2 driver only when the guide for your model calls for it, and check that the bit fits snugly before turning the screw. A poor fit can make removal difficult or damage the screw head.
- Buy replacement bottom screws only when they are explicitly listed as compatible with your exact model. The cited guides do not establish that a generic assortment or a screw from another iPhone will fit.
Do not confuse the bottom screws with internal iPhone fasteners
This comparison concerns the two exterior screws beside the charging port, not every screw inside an iPhone. An iFixit teardown of the iPhone 17 Pro identifies bottom Pentalobe P2 screws, alongside Phillips PH00, Tri-Point Y000, Torx Plus 4IP, and standoff screw types elsewhere in the phone. A P2 driver therefore does not cover every fastener involved in internal repair.
Older tool advice can add to the confusion: a 2015 9to5Mac article recommends P1 and describes P2 as too large in the author’s experience. Later iFixit iPhone 13 and 14 guides specify P2. Treat the older advice as historical, not a universal specification; follow the repair instructions for your exact model.

Before opening the phone
Power off the iPhone before beginning, as the cited guides instruct. Removing the exterior screws is only one part of opening the device. The iFixit iPhone 13 Pro Max screen-replacement guide warns that opening the display compromises its water-resistant seals. Have replacement seals ready if you plan to restore the seal, and avoid liquid exposure after reassembly if you have not replaced it.
