The Beyerdynamic AVENTHO Y combines effective noise cancelling, extensive customization and unusually long battery life—but its 90-hour headline applies with ANC switched off. Tom’s Guide reviewer also found the sound flat and the call quality disappointing, so these $149.99 headphones make most sense if comfort, ANC and endurance matter more to you than open-sounding audio or clear calls.
What the AVENTHO Y offers
The AVENTHO Y is a wireless, closed-back, over-ear headphone. Beyerdynamic’s North American product page lists Bluetooth 6.0, multipoint connectivity, SBC and AAC codec support, USB-C charging and a weight of 316 g. The manufacturer also describes its battery as replaceable and its ear cushions as interchangeable. Beyerdynamic’s product page lists Liquid Black at $149.99 and also shows Blue Fusion, Peach Blush and Soft Jade. Price and availability can change.
How good are the ANC and sound?
Tom’s Guide reviewer reported effective noise cancelling both indoors and outdoors, including during exposure to a boiling kettle, mechanical keyboard typing and nearby conversation. Those are review observations, not a guarantee that ANC will block every sound or work equally well in every environment.
The reviewer’s main reservation was the sound presentation: they described it as flat and lacking openness. The AVENTHO Y app includes equalization controls, which the reviewer said could help shape the sound, but that does not erase the underlying trade-off if you prefer a more spacious presentation without adjustment. The review also found call audio scratchy and distant, making these a less convincing choice if frequent calls are a priority. Tom’s Guide’s review contains those listening impressions.

What “90 hours” means in practice
The headline runtime is not the ANC-on figure. Beyerdynamic’s North American specifications state more than 90 hours without ANC and more than 60 hours with ANC enabled. Its Help Center likewise describes up to 90 hours with ANC off. Beyerdynamic’s Help Center is useful for distinguishing the ANC-off claim from the longer-running product-page specification.
Tom’s Guide’s reviewer tested with ANC enabled and music at 50% volume, reporting approximately 50 hours of playback before the battery reached 5%. That is one reviewer’s test under stated conditions—not a universal runtime promise. Volume, settings and usage can affect how long a charge lasts.

Which AVENTHO model fits your priorities?
Beyerdynamic’s own comparison positions the AVENTHO Y around battery life and customization. The other models prioritize different features; these are manufacturer-published distinctions, not results of an independent head-to-head test.
| Model | Fit and weight | Manufacturer-listed ANC runtime | Stated emphasis |
|---|---|---|---|
| AVENTHO Y | Over-ear; 316 g | More than 60 hours | Long battery life and customization; replaceable battery |
| AVENTHO 100 | On-ear; 220 g | Up to 40 hours | Compact, lighter design |
| AVENTHO 200 | Over-ear; weight not stated in the comparison | Up to 40 hours | Versatile daily use, wear detection and calls |
| AVENTHO 300 | Fit and weight not stated in the comparison | Up to 50 hours | Immersive audio, including Dolby Atmos and head tracking |
All runtime figures in the table are Beyerdynamic’s published claims for ANC use, not independently verified comparative measurements. The manufacturer’s AVENTHO comparison provides its model positioning.

Who should consider the AVENTHO Y?
- Consider it if over-ear comfort, effective ANC, app-based EQ and fewer charging stops are your leading priorities.
- Look elsewhere in the AVENTHO range if you specifically want the manufacturer’s lighter on-ear option, wear detection, or immersive-audio features; those priorities point to different models in Beyerdynamic’s lineup.
- Be cautious if you want a naturally open-sounding presentation or rely on headphones for frequent calls, given the review’s criticisms of sound and microphone performance.
For the product’s everyday-use rationale, What Hi-Fi? quoted Beyerdynamic CEO Andreas Rapp: “The Aventho Y was developed around a simple idea: audio isn’t just something people hear – it’s something they use every day to focus, recharge, connect and express themselves.” What Hi-Fi?’s launch coverage carries the quotation.
