Both Applitools Eyes and Percy can test responsive websites. The main difference is how they capture and account for responsive states: Applitools describes capturing multiple breakpoints in one test and applying Visual AI to review layout changes; Percy renders stored DOM snapshots and page assets at configured widths, with each browser-width combination counting toward screenshot usage. Choose by testing your own framework, pages, review workflow, and expected usage—not by assuming one is universally more accurate or faster.

How the responsive capture models differ

Applitools Eyes: breakpoints in a test

Applitools describes a workflow that captures mobile, tablet, and desktop breakpoints in a single test. Its product materials say Visual AI and layout match behavior can help focus review on meaningful layout changes, and that its Ultrafast Grid can render browser and viewport combinations in parallel. These are Applitools’ descriptions of its product, not an independent performance or accuracy comparison. See Applitools’ responsive design testing overview.

Applitools also describes updating baselines across affected viewports together. That can be useful when a deliberate redesign affects several screen sizes, but teams should validate how baseline review fits their own approval process. Its SDK documentation lists integrations including Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, WebdriverIO, TestCafe, and Puppeteer; confirm the specific language, SDK, and current support details for your stack in Applitools’ SDK documentation.

Percy: stored DOM and assets rendered at configured widths

Percy stores a DOM snapshot and page assets, then renders those at configured widths. This makes it important to distinguish a responsive rendering of one captured DOM from capturing distinct application states at different widths. If mobile navigation, conditional content, or component structure changes with viewport size, consult Percy’s responsive DOM capture guidance and test the behavior in your own application. The precise setup depends on SDK and version/configuration requirements.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Percy’s responsive testing documentation explains the configured-width model. Its browser compatibility documentation lists widths and page-dimension limits for supported configurations; check the current compatibility details against your target pages rather than treating any one matrix as universal.

Side-by-side comparison

Decision Applitools Eyes Percy What to validate
Responsive capture Applitools describes capturing multiple breakpoints in one test. Configured widths are rendered from stored DOM snapshots and assets. Does the captured page state represent what users actually see at each width?
Viewport-dependent DOM Product materials describe a multi-breakpoint workflow. Separate responsive DOM capture guidance and setup are documented. Test mobile-only menus, conditional content, and JavaScript behavior at each width.
Visual review Visual AI, match options, and grouped baseline maintenance are described by Applitools. Percy provides visual diffs and an approval workflow. Measure useful change detection, noise, review effort, and baseline ownership on your pages.
Framework fit SDK documentation lists Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, WebdriverIO, TestCafe, Puppeteer, and additional frameworks. Responsive DOM behavior depends on SDK and configuration. Confirm language, runner, CI setup, and supported SDK versions.
Browser and device coverage Applitools describes browser and viewport coverage through Ultrafast Grid. Browser selection and managed rendering are documented; mobile-browser access is plan-dependent. Verify the exact browser, operating system, device, and rendering configuration required.
Usage model Pricing materials use checkpoint allowances; do not equate checkpoints with screenshots. Each browser-width rendering counts as screenshot usage. Estimate the actual matrix and run frequency, then check current included units and plan limits.

How to choose for your responsive test suite

Start with the page behavior that is easiest to mis-capture

Choose at least one fluid page and one page whose DOM or content changes across widths. A purely fluid layout helps evaluate straightforward resizing; a responsive navigation or conditional component reveals whether the capture method sees the correct application state at each breakpoint.

Run a controlled proof of concept

  1. Use the same representative pages, target widths, browsers, and CI workflow in both tools.
  2. Include controlled visual changes: a missing menu, an overlap, text wrapping, and an intentional redesign.
  3. Record setup time, capture reliability, meaningful diffs versus noise, review steps, baseline maintenance, browser coverage, and quota consumption.
  4. Compare current plan costs using your own page or component count, browser matrix, widths, run frequency, retention needs, and other applicable limits.

This is an evaluation method, not a published head-to-head benchmark. The available vendor documentation does not establish an across-the-board winner for speed or visual accuracy.

Use current plan terms, not a unit-to-unit price shortcut

Applitools’ pricing page displayed Starter at $667 per month when paid annually, with 100,000 component checkpoints or 1,000 page checkpoints, when the information summarized here was gathered. Pricing and allowances can change; verify the current Applitools pricing page before making a purchase decision. Checkpoint allowances are not directly interchangeable with screenshot counts.

ScreenshotNeo as an alternative for screenshot capture

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a like-for-like visual regression review service. Try it first if your immediate need is to capture clean screenshots programmatically: cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed; and its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots.
