Apple’s “Surprise and shine” event on September 9, 2026, was led by iPhone Duo, the company’s first foldable iPhone. Apple also announced iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, and AirPods 5. The main scheduled launch dates were September 18 for the Pro phones, watches and earbuds, and October 23 for iPhone Duo.
iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone
iPhone Duo opens from a compact phone into a larger-screen device: Apple lists a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. Apple says iOS 27 is adapted for the folding format, including side-by-side Split View multitasking. It also announced Apple Pencil with USB-C support for Duo later in 2026.
The camera system includes a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. Apple lists U.S. starting prices of $1,999 and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. Preorders were scheduled to begin October 16, with availability scheduled for October 23. Those dates were still in the future as of October 8, 2026; current stock and any later schedule changes are not established here. Apple’s durability, performance and battery-life statements are company claims, not independent test results.
Apple also listed an iPhone Duo Case, a two-part case that wraps both sides and is compatible with MagSafe, Qi2 25W and Qi-certified chargers. It was priced at $79 in the U.S., with ordering announced for October 16. The iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand was listed at $129.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max focus on camera and performance
The iPhone 18 Pro lineup’s headline camera change is a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. Apple also highlighted its A20 Pro chip and a smaller Dynamic Island. The company says the phones improve sustained performance and battery life.
Apple estimates up to 36 hours of video playback for iPhone 18 Pro and up to 45 hours for Pro Max under its stated conditions; these are Apple figures, not independent measurements. U.S. starting prices were announced at $1,199 for Pro and $1,299 for Pro Max, with availability beginning September 18.

Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 add health features
Apple announced a new Health Sensing System across the watch lineup. Series 12 starts at $399, according to MacRumors. Ultra 4, listed by Apple at $799 in the U.S., is the more adventure- and sports-focused option.
Apple says Ultra 4 measures heart rate and heart-rate variability at a higher frequency, adds a readiness score, and supports up to 45 hours of outdoor workout tracking. Any description of its accuracy as “most accurate” is Apple’s characterization, not an independently established comparison. Apple also says Ultra 4 contains 45 percent recycled material overall.

AirPods 5 bring open-ear noise cancellation
AirPods 5 were announced in two versions priced at $129 and $149 in the U.S., with availability beginning September 18. Apple says they add open-ear Active Noise Cancellation, updated acoustic architecture, Siri AI and Live Translation.
Apple claims up to 50 percent more external-noise reduction than AirPods 4 with ANC. That figure comes from Apple’s July 2026 test using prerelease firmware and iOS 27 under IEC 60268-24, compared with bestselling commercially available wireless open-ear headphones at that time; it is not an independent general finding. Apple says AirPods 5 contain 40 percent recycled material overall.
