Apple’s newest rumored Mac is a touch-screen MacBook Pro—not a confirmed iPad that runs macOS or a single device combining Mac and iPad. Bloomberg reported that Apple’s planned touch Mac would “stop well short” of a Mac–iPad hybrid. Apple has announced an M5 iPad Pro, but that is a separate, existing tablet.
What Apple is reportedly planning
Bloomberg reported on October 16, 2025, that Apple was preparing a revamped MacBook Pro with a touch display, citing people familiar with the plans. That report placed the device’s expected arrival in late 2026 or early 2027. On February 24, 2026, Bloomberg described initial touch Macs as due “this fall” and reported interface changes including Dynamic Island. These are accounts of plans attributed to unnamed sources, not an Apple announcement, and the timing may change. Bloomberg’s October 2025 report and its February 2026 report describe a touch-screen MacBook, not a confirmed hybrid device.
Why “Mac and iPad hybrid” is misleading
In a March 1, 2026 Bloomberg newsletter, Mark Gurman characterized the planned touch-screen MacBook as stopping well short of a Mac–iPad hybrid. That is the most direct reporting on whether Apple is preparing one combined Mac-and-tablet product, and it argues against presenting a true hybrid as the likely release. A touch display would add touch input to a Mac laptop; it does not by itself establish that the laptop runs iPadOS, that an iPad can detach and become a Mac, or that one device combines the two product lines. The reports cited here do not establish those design or software details.

What Apple has confirmed—and what remains rumor
Apple’s China mainland newsroom announced an iPad Pro with M5 on October 15, 2025. That makes it a useful existing tablet comparison, not proof of a Mac–iPad hybrid. The touch-screen MacBook details, including its design and reported schedule, come from Bloomberg’s unnamed sources. No official Apple confirmation of the rumored Mac or a hybrid device appears in the cited material. Apple’s Mac newsroom archive provides background on separate Mac announcements, but those updates do not substantiate a hybrid.
