For photos today, Amazon Echo Show is the only confirmed choice: Amazon documents Photo Display on supported Echo Show models, including Echo Show 8. Apple has not confirmed a display-equipped HomePod or its reported photo features. That makes Amazon the practical option now—but the available evidence does not establish which screen shows pictures better.
What is actually available?
Amazon documents Photo Display for Echo Show 8, Echo Show 11 (2025 release), Echo Show 15, and Echo Show 21. Apple’s current HomePod product page presents HomePod and HomePod mini as speakers; it does not establish a display-equipped HomePod.
MacRumors reported leaked setup screens for a rumored Apple home hub on September 30, 2026. The report describes a feature called Photo Face, but Apple has not confirmed the product or those details. Treat it as a report, not a product specification. MacRumors’ report says Photo Face may select collections, Memories, or shared albums and may require iCloud Photos.

Set up Photo Display
On a supported Echo device with a screen, Amazon’s instructions direct you to Display & Appearance > Photo Display and then choose a supported photo service. Amazon’s setup guide documents the configuration path; available services and screens can vary by device.

Choose and manage what appears
Amazon says Echo Show can display personal photos or albums, as well as photos shared by people you invite. Its personalization options include background slideshows, Photo Frame, and Photos widgets. Supported voice commands can show, favorite, hide, or share photos. Photo Display is unavailable in Kids Mode. See Amazon’s personalization help for the documented features.
How Apple’s photo sharing compares
Apple’s photo tools are documented, even though a photo-display hub is not. With iCloud Photos, a person’s library syncs across their Apple devices. For family sharing, the key distinction is whether people are jointly managing a library or sharing selected albums:

Apple’s iCloud guide describes these options. At its WWDC 2026 keynote, Apple also described Android and Windows users contributing to Shared Albums and full-resolution sharing. That announcement does not establish that every feature is available on every device or OS release; check the applicable requirements. Apple’s WWDC26 keynote is the source for those announcements.

- Choose Echo Show if you want a photo-capable display now. Amazon documents Photo Display on several Echo Show models and provides setup and curation options.
- Apple’s services may suit a household already organizing pictures with iCloud. Shared Photo Library and Shared Albums offer different ways to collaborate, but the leaked Photo Face details do not prove how a future screen would select or display those photos.
- Do not choose on image quality or price based on these sources. They do not provide comparable screen resolution, brightness, viewing behavior, current prices, or a head-to-head photo-quality test. Amazon’s supported-model list confirms feature availability, not a best-screen ranking.
Verdict
Amazon Echo Show is better for photos in the practical, present-day sense that it is a documented display with photo features. Apple’s photo-sharing tools are established, but the display that could put them on a HomePod-style hub remains unconfirmed. There is not enough evidence to name an image-quality winner or compare the rumored Apple device fairly with an Echo Show.
