Apple has not confirmed an October 13, 2026 event, invitation or product announcement. Reports summarized by 9to5Mac and MacRumors instead point to a possible launch of a display-equipped smart-home hub, alongside refreshed HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K models. Treat the date, event format and specifications as unconfirmed until Apple publishes primary information.
Will Apple hold an October 13 special event?
Not according to any official Apple source reviewed for this story. Bloomberg reporting, as summarized by 9to5Mac on September 30, says Apple plans to introduce a long-delayed smart-home product on October 13. A later 9to5Mac report says the coverage does not establish whether Apple will stage a formal keynote, release a video or announce products through its website.
That makes October 13 a reported product date rather than a confirmed Apple event. There is no verified Apple invitation or event page to use as confirmation.

What the rumored smart-home hub could be
The reported centerpiece is a screen-equipped home controller sometimes described as Apple’s long-rumored HomePod-like hub. The common thread in the coverage is a device for controlling accessories, media and communication from a central display, with Siri at the center of the software experience.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
Conflicting screen-size reports
9to5Mac’s summary of Bloomberg reporting describes a 6-inch display and an iMac G4-inspired design. MacRumors’ September 30 roundup instead describes an all-display, iPad-like device with a 7-inch screen. It also reports two possible forms: a speaker-base version and a wall-mounted version.
Neither 6-inch nor 7-inch is an Apple specification. The discrepancy is a reason to avoid treating the rumored dimensions, materials or industrial design as settled.
Possible software and use cases
Reports describe a software experience combining elements associated with Apple’s operating systems and built around Siri. The expected role would be quick control of lights, security devices, climate equipment and entry hardware, plus media or communication tasks. Apple has not published a complete feature list, camera specification, privacy implementation or performance claim for this device.

Other products reportedly in the October lineup
MacRumors also reports two possible companion updates:
- Refreshed HomePod mini: Reports suggest networking and processor changes, but Apple has not verified those specifications, a price or a release schedule.
- New Apple TV 4K: Reports likewise point to possible networking and processor updates. No official specification, price or regional availability has been announced in the sources reviewed.
These products should remain separate from the rumored display hub. A revised HomePod mini or Apple TV would not, by itself, confirm that Apple is introducing a new screen-based product.
What Apple’s smart-home platform already supports
Readers do not need to wait for a rumored product to build an Apple-based smart home. Apple says a HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV can be configured as a home hub. A hub enables remote access to home devices and supports automations when the home is set up for them.

Apple’s Home app organizes compatible accessories into practical categories including lighting, security, climate and entry. Apple also identifies Matter as an interoperability standard that can bring more compatible accessories into supported platforms. Compatibility remains model-specific, so check the exact accessory and required software before buying.
A documented Matter example
Apple’s September 2025 iOS 26 feature documentation gives one concrete example: a thermostat feature requires a home hub such as Apple TV or HomePod and a compatible Matter thermostat. That requirement is an example for the stated feature, not blanket certification for every Matter accessory or every Home app function.

Should you wait or buy an Apple home hub now?
Buy now if you need a working hub
Choose an Apple HomePod mini or Apple TV when you need Apple home control today and can work without a built-in screen. HomePod mini is the straightforward choice for a compact Siri speaker; Apple TV fits households that also want a television-based media device.

Wait if the display is the deciding feature
Waiting is sensible if you specifically want a glanceable interface, a wall-mounted controller or on-device visual control. The reported product has no confirmed launch, price, availability, screen size or complete feature set, so a purchase decision should not assume those details.
Check accessory compatibility first
- Verify that each light, lock, camera, thermostat or other accessory supports Apple Home and the required Matter profile, if applicable.
- Confirm the software version and hub requirement for the feature you intend to use.
- Do not assume that Matter support alone guarantees every Apple Home function.
What to watch for from Apple
The most useful confirmation will come from Apple itself: an event page or announcement, a product page with the screen size and mounting options, supported accessories, pricing, release regions and software requirements. Until those appear, the October 13 story remains a report about a possible product introduction, not a confirmed Apple launch.
