The October 2025 forecast was right about the M5 iPad Pro: Apple announced it on October 15, with availability starting October 22. The same week’s report described a base 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro as ready for launch, but the later official MacBook Pro announcement covered M5 Pro and M5 Max models—not a confirmed base-model configuration.
Did Apple launch the M5 iPad Pro that week?
Yes. The forecast referred to the week of October 14–18, 2025. Apple announced the M5 iPad Pro on October 15 and said it would be available from Apple and authorized resellers on October 22, 2025. That launch is a past event, not a current October 2026 expectation.
Apple offered the tablet in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, silver or space black, and 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB storage configurations. The 11-inch model is 5.3 mm thick; the 13-inch model is 5.1 mm thick.

What changed in the M5 iPad Pro?
Chip, graphics, and storage
Apple lists a 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core, a 16-core Neural Engine, and a third-generation ray-tracing engine. It also says the M5 iPad Pro can deliver up to 2x faster storage read/write speeds. These are Apple’s claims, not independent comparative test results.

Wireless and cellular
The M5 iPad Pro adds Apple’s N1 wireless chip, with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support. Cellular models use Apple’s C1X modem; Apple claims up to 50 percent faster cellular data than the preceding model. Cellular connectivity is optional, so check the specific configuration if you need mobile data away from Wi-Fi.
Memory and charging
Apple says the 256GB and 512GB configurations start with 12GB of unified memory. Fast charging can reach 50 percent in about 30 minutes when using an optional high-wattage USB-C adapter, such as Apple’s 70W adapter; that charging figure is conditional on the adapter used.

How large are Apple’s performance claims?
Apple says the M5 iPad Pro delivers up to 3.5x the AI performance of the M4 iPad Pro and up to 5.6x that of the M1 iPad Pro. For ray-traced 3D rendering, Apple claims up to 1.5x the M4 iPad Pro’s performance and up to 6.7x the M1 iPad Pro’s. These comparisons are manufacturer-stated maximums; they do not establish how much faster every app or workload will be in everyday use.

On October 14, 2025, MacRumors reported Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman’s expectation that Apple would update the iPad Pro, Vision Pro, and likely the base 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 that week. The report characterized that base MacBook as “ready for launch” and expected it before higher-end M5 Pro and M5 Max models. That was a forecast, not an Apple announcement.

Apple later announced M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models on March 3, 2026, with availability beginning March 11, and described the M5 architecture as shared across M5-based products including the 14-inch MacBook Pro. The cited announcements do not establish the exact configuration, price, or regional inventory of a base 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro. Confirm the model and chip on the current Apple listing or retailer page before buying.

These are not interchangeable devices simply because they use M5-family silicon. The first decision is whether your work fits iPadOS and a tablet’s touch-and-accessory workflow, or needs macOS and a laptop workflow. The available evidence does not support an independent performance ranking between them.
