iFixit rated the AirPods Pro 3 at 0 out of 10 for repairability in its teardown published October 1, 2025. The assessment found that glued batteries, heat-and-pry disassembly, delicate flex cables and difficult resealing make ordinary repair impractical—even though a skilled technician may technically remove some components.
What iFixit’s 0/10 score means
The score is iFixit’s judgment under its own earbuds repairability rubric, not a regulator’s certification and not proof that Apple offers no replacement or service option. iFixit’s scale runs from zero, described as unrepairable, to ten, the easiest to repair. Its criteria include straightforward disassembly and the availability of replacement parts and instructions supplied or endorsed by the manufacturer.
iFixit also says it revises its rubric. Scores from different years should therefore be compared cautiously rather than treated as measurements made under a permanently unchanged standard.

The earbud battery is glued in place
According to the October 1, 2025 teardown, the coin-cell battery is firmly glued down. Reaching it requires heating the earbud and carefully prying through the housing. That process can permanently damage the enclosure, and the teardown describes the result as a non-starter for ordinary owners and most repair shops.

Delicate connections complicate removal
Even after opening the housing, delicate flex cables and glued channels make component removal and reassembly difficult. A battery that is physically removable in a teardown is not the same as a battery that can be replaced reliably in routine service. The technician must avoid tearing connections, fit the new part, and restore the enclosure well enough to protect the electronics.
Resealing is part of the repair problem
AirPods are compact, sealed products rather than modular devices with screws and accessible service panels. Opening them compromises the original assembly, while reassembly requires precision and adhesive work. The teardown’s central finding is therefore about access and restoration, not merely whether a replacement cell exists.
Can you replace an AirPods Pro 3 battery?
Technically, a specialist may be able to remove and replace an earbud battery, but iFixit found the job impractical for most owners. Heat and controlled prying are required, the housing can be damaged permanently, and the flex cables and adhesive channels raise the risk of failure during removal or reassembly.

That conclusion should not be expanded into a claim that Apple provides no service. Apple’s general support information describes certified repair using genuine parts, but the available evidence does not establish AirPods Pro 3-specific coverage, regional terms or pricing. Check Apple’s current service options for your country before assuming a repair, replacement or out-of-warranty fee.
What happened to the charging case?
iFixit did not open the charging case through its glued-in internals during this teardown. It reported that Apple changed the case from two batteries to one cell rated at 1.334 Wh.

The case’s glued construction means its battery and other internal parts are not presented as straightforward service items. Because the teardown stopped at the glued-in internals, it does not establish a complete case-repair procedure or a current case-replacement price.

Does the higher water-resistance rating improve repairability?
No. iFixit reported that the AirPods Pro 3 moved from an IP54 rating for the Pro 2 to IP57. Better resistance to dust and water can require tighter sealing, while repair requires opening and restoring that seal. The rating change may be useful for durability, but it does not show that batteries or other parts are easier to reach.

iFixit’s 2019 AirPods Pro teardown also received a 0/10 score. That assessment cited a non-modular glued design and a lack of replacement parts that made repair impractical and uneconomical.
The two teardowns show a continuing pattern, but they are separate model assessments. Service options, internal details and iFixit’s scoring rubric can change between generations, so the 2019 result should not be treated as a specification for every AirPods model.

What a repairability comparison should examine
If you are comparing wireless earbuds, a score alone is not enough. Look at the underlying service conditions:
- Access: Can the battery and common wear parts be reached without destructive opening?
- Parts and instructions: Does the manufacturer supply or endorse replacement parts and repair guidance?
- Resealing: Can the product be closed again while preserving its intended protection?
- Comparable scoring: Were the products assessed under the same iFixit rubric version and for comparable generations?
These questions explain why nominal battery removability does not automatically translate into an economical repair.
Do newer AirPods teardowns change the Pro 3 result?
No. A September 29, 2026 report described a battery-removal improvement in a different AirPods model. It is not evidence that the AirPods Pro 3 changed, nor does it revise iFixit’s October 1, 2025 score for the Pro 3.

What the score means for a purchase or ownership decision
The 0/10 result matters most if you expect to keep earbuds for many battery cycles or repair them after accidental damage. The AirPods Pro 3’s sealed construction may support its reported IP57 protection, but it makes battery access and post-opening restoration difficult. Treat the product as one whose long-term serviceability is limited, and verify current Apple replacement or repair terms in your region rather than relying on the teardown score to answer that separate question.
iFixit’s 2025 teardown also cited a $250 price for the AirPods Pro 3. That was a figure in the teardown, not a current price quote, so it should not be used as a present-day retail or service price.
