Apple agreed to a $95 million settlement in a U.S. class action over allegations that Siri-enabled devices sometimes activated unintentionally and captured private conversations. The settlement was not an admission of wrongdoing: Apple denied liability. The claims period and original claim process are historical, and the settlement administrator’s listed payment-reissue deadline of September 3, 2026, had passed as of October 4, 2026.

What the Siri lawsuit alleged

The lawsuit, Lopez v. Apple Inc., alleged that Siri-enabled devices sometimes activated without the user intending to invoke Siri and acquired or shared confidential or private communications. An unintended device activation is not, by itself, proof that any particular person’s conversation was captured.

Apple denied liability. The February 10, 2025 preliminary approval order says: “Apple denies any and all liability but does not oppose the Motion.” The settlement resolved the claims; it did not establish that Apple had violated the law or engaged in eavesdropping.

Who was included in the settlement class

The proposed class covered individuals residing in the United States or its territories who met the settlement’s ownership and event criteria. The qualifying event period ran from September 17, 2014, through December 31, 2024. Covered Siri-enabled devices listed in the preliminary approval order were:

To submit a claim, a person had to attest under oath that they purchased or owned a covered Siri device in the United States or its territories, had Siri enabled on it, experienced at least one unintended Siri activation, and had such an activation occur during a conversation intended to be confidential or private. A claim could cover up to five devices.

How much the settlement paid

The $95 million was the gross settlement fund, not a guaranteed payment to each claimant. Administration costs, taxes, court-approved attorneys’ fees and expenses, and service awards were to be deducted before determining the net amount available to class members.

Valid claims were to receive a pro rata share of the net settlement, capped at $20 per claimed device. The actual amount depended on the number of valid claims and devices, so $20 was a maximum per device—not a fixed payment promise.

Can you still file a claim or request a payment reissue?

The class concerned events through December 31, 2024, and the original claim process is not a new opportunity to file. The settlement administrator’s site listed September 3, 2026, as the deadline to request reissuance of a settlement payment. That date had passed by October 4, 2026.

If you already received a payment or have a payment question, check the settlement administrator’s website for any current contact route or exception. The available materials do not establish that late reissue requests are accepted.

What the court record establishes about the case status

The available court order is a preliminary approval order dated February 10, 2025. It set a proposed final approval hearing for August 1, 2025. That order alone does not establish the final disposition or any subsequent appeal status, so those details should not be inferred from it.
