The Apple Watch SE 3 does not use the same chip as Apple Watch Series 11: Apple lists an S10 chip in the SE 3 and an S11 in Series 11. The often-quoted $150 difference is also specific to U.S. launch starting prices—$249 for SE 3 and $399 for Series 11—not a verified price comparison for October 2026. The practical choice comes down to current prices, health features, screen size, battery estimates, and fit.
What the chip and price claims actually mean
Apple’s model comparison lists the S10 SiP for Apple Watch SE 3 and the S11 SiP for Apple Watch Series 11. The models therefore do not share the same chip. Those model names alone do not establish how much faster one feels in everyday use; the available evidence does not provide an independent head-to-head performance test.
Apple announced U.S. starting prices of $249 for SE 3 and $399 for Series 11 at launch, a $150 difference between those two starting prices. Apple reiterated the starting prices in January 2026. They are not live October 2026 prices: check the price for the exact size and GPS or cellular configuration you intend to buy. Apple’s SE 3 announcement and Series 11 announcement state the launch prices.

- Choose SE 3 if its current price is meaningfully lower and you want core smartwatch, activity, and newer sleep features without needing ECG or hypertension notifications.
- Choose Series 11 if you expect to use ECG or hypertension notifications, prefer its larger case and display, or value Apple’s higher battery-life estimates and faster charging estimate.
- Compare the exact listings before deciding. The $150 launch gap does not tell you today’s price difference for a particular size or cellular configuration.
Health features: what Series 11 adds
SE 3 includes heart-rate alerts, cycle tracking, sleep score, wrist-temperature sensing, retrospective ovulation estimates, and sleep apnea notifications. Series 11 adds ECG and hypertension notifications to a broader health feature set. Availability can vary by region, and health notifications or measurements are not a substitute for medical advice.

Apple says more than 5 million nights of sleep data from the Apple Heart and Movement Study were used to develop and test its sleep-score algorithms. That is Apple’s description of its development process, not independent evidence that a score is clinically useful. Apple states that the Vitals app is for wellness purposes only, not medical use, and that wrist-temperature sensing is not intended for medical use. See Apple’s feature comparison and health feature notices for qualifications.
Size, display, and durability
SE 3 comes in 40mm and 44mm aluminum cases; Series 11 comes in 42mm and 46mm sizes. The larger Series 11 options may suit someone who wants more display area, but case size is a fit preference rather than a universal advantage. If possible, try the size on your wrist and consider whether you plan to wear the watch overnight.

Both have an Always-On OLED Retina display. Apple rates SE 3 brightness up to 1,000 nits. Apple describes the SE 3 Ion-X glass as four times more crack-resistant than the SE 2 glass; for Series 11, Apple says a ceramic coating on the Ion-X glass provides twice the scratch resistance of Series 10 Ion-X glass. These are different comparisons—crack resistance for SE 3 and scratch resistance for Series 11—not a direct durability ranking between the two current models. See Apple’s specifications.
Battery life and charging
Apple rates SE 3 for up to 18 hours of normal use, or up to 32 hours in Low Power Mode. Series 11 is rated for up to 24 hours of normal use, or up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode. These are manufacturer estimates, not results from a controlled comparison: Apple used different test durations and scenarios for the models, so the figures should not be read as a precise real-world six-hour advantage.

Apple’s fast-charge estimates say SE 3 can reach about 80% in 45 minutes, while Series 11 can reach about 80% in 30 minutes. For either model, 15 minutes of charging is estimated to add up to eight hours of normal use. Actual results vary with adapter, region, settings, starting charge, use, and environment. Both watches have a 50-meter water-resistance rating and are suitable for shallow-water swimming under Apple’s stated limits. Apple also says Series 11 can be used for snorkeling to depths of 6 meters. Neither should be treated as a scuba-diving watch or as suitable for high-velocity water sports; water resistance can diminish over time. Check Apple’s water-resistance guidance and model specifications.

Check these details before buying
- Compare current prices: check the same case size and GPS or cellular configuration for both models. Treat the $249 and $399 figures as U.S. launch starting prices, not current offers.
- Decide whether you need the added health functions: ECG and hypertension notifications are Series 11 distinctions; SE 3 already includes several newer sleep and temperature features.
- Try the case size if you can: compare 40mm and 44mm SE 3 options with 42mm and 46mm Series 11 options for comfort and readability.
- Match battery and charging to your routine: consider whether you wear a watch overnight and when you can charge it. Apple’s estimates are not a guarantee of your personal runtime.
- Choose GPS or cellular deliberately: compare the configuration you actually need, since starting prices do not establish the cost of every model variant.
