Apple TV has announced The Choir, an eight-episode comedic drama starring and created by Gavin & Stacey collaborators Ruth Jones and James Corden. The series is in production and is set to premiere globally on Apple TV in 2027; Apple has not announced an exact date.
What is The Choir about?
Ben (James Corden) and Lisa (Ruth Jones) are siblings who have not seen each other for several years. Ben has been abroad, while Lisa has stayed in their small English town. After events take a “sorry turn,” Ben is compelled to return to the life and estranged family he left behind. Apple describes a struggling local choir as a possible way for the siblings to mend their rift, with the series exploring family, friendship, love and music.

Apple’s official synopsis asks: “Can the unlikely healing of a rift with his big sister come in the form of a struggling local choir and the ensemble who sing their hearts out each week?”
How The Choir connects to Gavin & Stacey
The connection is the people behind and in front of the camera: Jones and Corden reunite for their first project together since Gavin & Stacey: The Finale. They star in The Choir and executive-produce it. Apple presents the new show as a distinct series, not a Gavin & Stacey sequel or a story set in the same universe.
#1 Best Overall
The “record-breaking” reference belongs to the earlier comedy, not to The Choir. In a January 3, 2025 report, the BBC said Gavin & Stacey: The Finale had reached 19.3 million viewers, making it the UK’s most-watched scripted show across broadcasters and streamers since current records began in 2002. The BBC also said that figure surpassed the 2019 Christmas special’s 18.5 million viewers in 28 days.

Jones and Corden lead an ensemble that Apple says includes Tom Davis, Rosie Sheehy, Susan Brown, Jason Watkins, David Harewood, Alexandria Riley, Sylvestra Le Touzel, Tom Edden, Gary Lamont, Emily Lloyd-Saini, Stephen Leask, Luiis Rouf, Jo Foster, Evie Jones and Farrah Abbassy.
