Apple began rolling out firmware 7A294 for AirPods Pro (2nd generation) on September 10, 2024, six days before iOS 18 launched. Apple’s release notes, published later, document new Siri head gestures, Voice Isolation for calls, gaming audio enhancements, and improved Personalized Volume performance. This is a historical update, not the current firmware recommendation: Apple listed version 9A348 for both AirPods Pro 2 case variants on October 8, 2026.
Which AirPods received firmware 7A294?
The September 10, 2024 rollout applied to AirPods Pro (2nd generation), including both Lightning and USB-C versions. It replaced firmware 6F8. It did not apply to first-generation AirPods Pro. The update was reported ahead of iOS 18’s September 16, 2024 release; that timing is historical, not an upcoming launch. 9to5Mac reported the rollout on September 10, 2024.
What did firmware 7A294 add?
At the time of the September 2024 report, Apple had not published release notes. Apple’s support document now lists the changes for 7A294 and says the features require compatible devices running iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, or watchOS 11, as applicable. Apple Support’s firmware notes describe these additions:

- Voice Isolation: A call feature intended to improve the caller’s voice by reducing background noise.

- Personalized Volume: Performance improvements to the feature that adjusts media volume based on listening habits and surroundings.
How do I update AirPods firmware?
AirPods firmware updates install automatically; there is no manual download button. Apple says updates are delivered while the AirPods are charging and within Bluetooth range of an iPhone, iPad, or Mac connected to Wi-Fi. To encourage an update, follow Apple’s current steps:

- Update the paired iPhone, iPad, or Mac to the latest available operating system and make sure Bluetooth is on.
- Connect the iPhone, iPad, or Mac to Wi-Fi, then connect the AirPods to that device.
- Put the AirPods in their charging case and connect the case to power.
- Close the case lid and keep it near the Bluetooth-connected device for at least 30 minutes.
- Open the case and reconnect the AirPods, then check the firmware version using the steps below.
If you do not have a nearby iPhone, iPad, or Mac, Apple says you can arrange an appointment at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
How do I check the AirPods firmware version?
On iPhone or iPad
Open Settings > Bluetooth, tap the Info button next to your AirPods, and look under About for the firmware version.

Open System Settings > Bluetooth and find the firmware version for your AirPods.
Is 7A294 still the current AirPods Pro 2 firmware?
No. Apple’s support page listed firmware 9A348 for both USB-C and Lightning AirPods Pro 2 when accessed on October 8, 2026. Firmware listings can change, so check Apple’s AirPods firmware update page for the version currently listed for your model. The 7A294 release remains useful as update history, but it should not be presented as the current build.
