Apple Pay became available in India on 30 September 2026. At the time of Apple’s current India eligibility listing, eligible Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards can be added to Apple Wallet and used for contactless payments in stores, apps, and on the web. You can add a card from the Wallet app or Axis Bank’s Mobile Banking app, then complete the bank’s verification step.
What you need before setting up Apple Pay
- An iPhone running iOS 18 or later, which Axis Bank lists as the requirement.
- An active, eligible Axis Bank Visa or Mastercard credit card. Apple’s India participating-bank list names Axis Bank; check with Axis if you are unsure whether your specific card qualifies.
- Access to Axis Bank’s Mobile Banking app or the Wallet app, plus the ability to complete any issuer verification requested during enrollment.
Apple’s launch announcement describes Apple Pay availability on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, with Mac support “coming soon” at the time of the announcement. The iPhone steps below do not require an Apple Watch.

How to add an Axis Bank card to Apple Wallet
There are two supported enrollment routes. Choose whichever is more convenient; both require you to follow the verification prompts from Axis Bank.

- Open Wallet on your iPhone and tap the Add (+) button.
- Hold your credit card near the back of the iPhone to scan it, or choose to enter the card details manually.
- Follow the onscreen prompts to submit the card for verification.
- Complete any additional Axis Bank security check. Axis may request an SMS one-time password (OTP) or in-app verification. The card is not ready for Apple Pay until this step is complete.
Add the card from Axis Bank’s Mobile Banking app
- Sign in to the Axis Bank Mobile Banking app.
- Open the eligible credit card in your card list and tap Add to Apple Wallet.
- Follow the onscreen instructions, then complete any issuer verification requested by Axis Bank.
Enrollment verification is separate from paying in a store: the bank may verify you while adding the card, but Apple says you do not need to type a PIN or OTP at checkout.

How to pay in a store with an iPhone
- In Axis Bank’s Mobile Banking app, open Manage Usage Limits and make sure Tap and Pay is enabled for the card.
- At checkout, look for a contactless payment symbol or ask whether the terminal accepts contactless payments.
- Double-click the iPhone’s side button and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
- Hold the iPhone near the contactless reader and wait for the Done checkmark.
Apple Pay works only where the merchant’s terminal accepts contactless payments; the presence of Apple Pay on your phone does not mean every shop accepts it.
How to pay in an app or on the web
- In Axis Bank’s Mobile Banking app, open Manage Usage Limits and confirm that Online Shopping is enabled for the card.
- Choose Apple Pay at the app or website checkout if it is offered.
- Review the payment and delivery details, authenticate as prompted, and wait for the Done confirmation.
If setup or a payment does not work
The card does not appear in the Axis app
Confirm that the card is an active Visa or Mastercard credit card eligible for Apple Pay, and update the Axis Bank Mobile Banking app. If it still is not listed, contact Axis Bank to confirm eligibility.

Wallet says “Card Not Added” or asks you to contact the issuer
Finish any outstanding bank verification. If the problem persists, Axis Bank lists toll-free support numbers 1800 4030 and 1800 8911.

An in-store payment is declined
Check that the merchant accepts contactless payments, Tap and Pay is enabled, and your card’s usage limits allow the transaction. If those checks do not resolve it, contact the issuer.

Security, rewards, and a lost iPhone
Apple says the physical card number is not stored on Apple servers or shared with merchants; Apple Pay uses a device-specific Device Account Number, or token. Axis also describes tokenization for card payments. This is a security measure, not a guarantee against every kind of fraud.
If your iPhone is lost, use Find My or Lost Mode to suspend Apple Pay on the device. Contact Axis Bank as well if you need to report or block the credit card. Axis Bank’s published policy says card rewards and benefits continue when you pay with an Axis card through Apple Pay.
