As of 3 October 2026, Apple Pay is available in India for eligible Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Vi’s international-roaming benefits depend on the annual prepaid or postpaid plan, while Xiaomi’s newly reported power banks range from a slim 5,000mAh magnetic model to a 20,000mAh, 165W option. Here is what is known at launch—and what to check before relying on a plan, payment method or product listing.
Apple Pay in India: who can use it and where
Apple announced Apple Pay’s India launch on 30 September 2026. At launch, eligible cards are Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards; this does not mean all Indian bank cards or debit cards work. Apple says customers can add an eligible card through the latest Axis Bank app or directly in the Wallet app. Check with Axis Bank if your specific card is eligible. Apple’s India launch announcement
Supported devices and payments
- In stores: Use a supported iPhone or Apple Watch at a contactless reader. Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode, then hold the device near the reader.
- In apps and online: Apple says Apple Pay can be used on iPhone and iPad where the merchant has implemented it.
- Mac: Apple described Mac support as “coming soon” in its launch announcement. That wording is not confirmation that Mac payments are already available in India.
Apple named Apple Store, Blinkit, Chaayos, Comet, Croma, Interflora, Ixigo, Le15 Patisserie, Reliance brands, Tata 1mg and Zomato among accepting merchants, and said millions of merchants accept Apple Pay. Acceptance is not universal: in-store payment requires a compatible contactless terminal, while online merchants must offer Apple Pay at checkout. Merchant availability can change.

Apple says the card number is not stored on the device or Apple servers, nor shared with merchants. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is encrypted and stored in the device’s Secure Element. Apple also says it does not retain transaction information that can be tied back to the user. These are Apple’s descriptions of its own system, not independent security-test findings. Vi international roaming: benefits reported for annual plans
The plan details below were reported by Hindustan Times on 1 October 2026. Postpaid and family plans
| Plan reported by HT | Roaming benefit reported | What remains unclear or plan-specific |
|---|---|---|
| Vi Max 501 UL | One free roaming pack per year | HT did not establish whether this is the five-day 1GB pack or the five-day 5GB pack |
| Vi Max 601 UL | Two free roaming packs per year | HT did not establish whether these are the five-day 1GB packs or the five-day 5GB packs |
| RedX 1251 | Three seven-day packs, each valued by HT at ₹2,999 | Confirm current destinations and pack terms with Vi |
| Vi Max Family 801 UL and 971 UL | Up to two SIMs; each member receives one annual pack | HT does not specify the data allowance for the pack |
| Vi Max Family 1401 UL | Up to five SIMs; each member receives one annual pack | HT does not specify the data allowance for the pack |
| RedX Family 1601 | Primary member gets a free seven-day pack valued by HT at ₹2,999; other members receive a 25% discount | Confirm discount eligibility and current pack terms with Vi |
Hindustan Times presents the bundled roaming as a way for Vi to retain existing customers and attract postpaid users who travel internationally. That is the article’s interpretation, not a stated Vi rationale. Its comparison with Airtel’s ₹4,999 hybrid plan is also HT’s framing; the report does not establish a current competitive response from Jio or Airtel.

5,000mAh; 98g; up to 15W wireless and 22.5W wired. HT says rated usable output is closer to 3,000mAh at 5V/2A. 20,000mAh; 70.56Wh; dual-port combined output up to 165W; built-in cable up to 120W; self-charging up to 90W. For a separate product distinction, Xiaomi’s official India page lists the Power Bank 5i 20000 67W. It is not the 165W model above: Xiaomi specifies three 6,700mAh cells, a rated capacity of 12,000mAh at 5V/3.6A, total energy under 100Wh, a built-in Type-C cable, USB-C and USB-A ports, and PD 3.0 with PPS. Xiaomi says it can charge up to three compatible devices and complies with IATA international air-travel safety standards. The manufacturer cautions that charging results vary with environmental conditions and device capabilities. Xiaomi Power Bank 5i official specifications
Quick Recap

Choose by the job, not just the largest number
- For a light everyday carry: Prioritize the ultra-thin model’s reported 98g weight and magnetic form, while accounting for its more limited usable rated output.
- For laptop charging: The 165W model is the one HT describes for high-output laptop and phone charging. Confirm that your laptop, cable and charging protocol can use the claimed output.
- For a balance of magnetic and wired charging: Compare the 10,000mAh model’s reported capacity and output limits with the phone’s charging support and how much reserve you need.
- For air travel: Check the exact model’s current manufacturer documentation and airline rules. Xiaomi’s IATA-compliance statement applies to the Power Bank 5i 67W page, not automatically to the other models.
