Apple announced MacBook Neo on March 4, 2026, with a U.S. starting price of $599 and battery claims of up to 16 hours of video streaming or up to 11 hours of wireless web use. Those are Apple’s test results, not guaranteed runtimes. The 13-inch laptop uses an A18 Pro chip, comes with 8GB of unified memory, and offers 256GB or 512GB of storage.
Price and availability
Apple announced a U.S. starting price of $599, or $499 for education, on March 4, 2026. Preorders opened that day, with availability set for March 11. Apple confirmed on March 11 that MacBook Neo was available through Apple Store locations and online. These are the announced U.S. prices; regional pricing and prices later on may differ. Apple’s March 4 announcement and March 11 availability update provide the launch details.
How long does the MacBook Neo battery last?
Apple specifies up to 16 hours of video streaming and up to 11 hours of wireless web browsing. The figures are separate test results, not a single all-purpose runtime estimate. Apple says battery life varies with use and configuration.
Apple’s test note says it used preproduction hardware, Wi-Fi browsing and video-streaming conditions, and set display brightness eight clicks up from the bottom. Actual runtime depends on factors such as workload and settings, so the test figures should not be treated as a promise that every owner will get those hours. Apple’s technical specifications detail the battery figures and test qualification.

What $599 gets you
The base configuration combines Apple’s A18 Pro chip with 8GB of unified memory and a 256GB SSD. A 512GB SSD is also available; the published specifications list both storage capacities. The chip has a six-core CPU—two performance cores and four efficiency cores—a five-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. Apple positions the computer for activities such as browsing, document creation, streaming, photo editing, and AI features across apps. Those are Apple’s stated use cases, not independent performance-test results.
Display
The 13-inch Liquid Retina display has a native resolution of 2408 × 1506 pixels, 219 pixels per inch, brightness up to 500 nits, and support for one billion colours. These are Apple’s published specifications for the 2026 model.

Design, camera, and software
Apple lists an aluminum enclosure in silver, blush, citrus, and indigo, along with a fanless design. The listed hardware includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones, dual side-firing speakers with Spatial Audio, a Magic Keyboard, and a Multi-Touch trackpad. MacBook Neo ships with macOS Tahoe. Apple Intelligence feature availability can vary by region and language.
Ports, external display, and charging
The two USB-C ports are not equivalent: one supports USB 3 at up to 10Gb/s and DisplayPort, while the other supports USB 2 at up to 480Mb/s. Apple also lists a 3.5mm headphone jack and support for one external display at up to 4K resolution and 60Hz. Check which USB-C port you use when connecting a display or a device that needs higher transfer speeds.

The box includes a 1.5-metre USB-C charge cable, but not a power adapter. Apple specifies a minimum charging wattage of 20W. If you do not already have a compatible USB-C power adapter, you will need to obtain one separately. Apple’s MacBook Neo technical specifications list the ports, display support, cable, and charging requirement.

Apple’s announcement establishes the product’s stated configuration, launch pricing, and its own battery-test figures. It does not establish independent performance results or how long a particular buyer’s battery will last in everyday use. Nor do these launch details by themselves show how MacBook Neo compares with a specific MacBook Air, Windows laptop, or Chromebook; a useful comparison would need current, like-for-like configurations and prices, as well as comparable battery-test methods.

Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, John Ternus, described the laptop as having an aluminum design, Liquid Retina display, Apple silicon performance, and “all-day battery life.” That is Apple’s promotional characterization; the measurable battery figures Apple publishes are the up-to-16-hour streaming and up-to-11-hour wireless-web results under its stated test conditions.
