U.S. price difference
Apple announced the iPhone 17 at a U.S. starting price of $799 on September 9, 2025. Samsung’s U.S. listing, checked October 4, 2026, showed the unlocked Galaxy S26 Ultra at $1,299.99 for 256GB. Subtracting those stated prices gives a $500.99 difference. Because one is a launch starting price and the other a current listing, it should not be read as a verified difference between offers available at the same time.
Samsung’s U.S. listing showed $1,499.99 for 512GB and $1,799.99 for 1TB. The comparison here is limited to these U.S. references; prices, promotions, taxes, and carrier terms can vary. Check the current listing and final checkout total before buying.

How the size and display compare
The S26 Ultra’s listed display measures 6.9 inches, versus 6.3 inches for the iPhone 17. It is also heavier at 214g compared with 177g. The larger Samsung may suit someone who wants more screen area, while the lighter iPhone is the more compact option based on these dimensions. Samsung identifies a built-in Privacy Display; Apple lists OLED and up to 120Hz ProMotion for the iPhone 17.
Camera hardware: different configurations, not a proven winner
Apple lists two 48MP rear cameras, with optical-quality 2x telephoto provided via the main camera. Samsung lists a 200MP wide camera alongside 50MP telephoto and ultra-wide cameras. Those specifications show different hardware emphases, but megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos. The available manufacturer material does not provide an independent comparative camera test.

Recommended Free Tools
Apple cites up to 30 hours of video playback in its 2025 announcement. Samsung lists 31 hours on its product page and a 5,000mAh battery capacity. The playback estimates come from the respective manufacturers, not a shared test, so the one-hour difference is not evidence that the Samsung lasts longer in equivalent real-world use.
