Apple’s Windows software comes from the Microsoft Store, and each app covers a different job. Install Apple Music for music, Apple TV for movies and TV shows, Apple Devices to manage an iPhone or iPad, and iTunes for podcasts and audiobooks. You do not need every app; install only the ones that match what you want to do on the PC.
Which Apple app to install
Apple’s official Windows download guide, published August 3, 2026, lists four apps. Each one has a separate role, so start with the task you have in mind.

Apple Music
Choose Apple Music if your goal is a music library on the PC. It keeps iTunes Store music purchases in the same place as your other music.
Apple TV
Choose Apple TV for movies and television. Your Apple TV app purchases appear in the library, so this is the app to install if you already buy or rent video through Apple.

Apple Devices
Choose Apple Devices if you need to connect an iPhone or iPad to the PC. It handles syncing, backups, software updates, and restores. Apple says the Music and TV apps must already be installed before Apple Devices can use them, so install those two first if you plan to sync media.
iTunes
iTunes is not gone from Windows. Apple’s support page states it plainly: “On your Windows PC, you manage your podcasts and audiobooks in iTunes.” Apple’s guidance also says that if Apple Music or Apple TV is not installed, you can keep using iTunes for all of your media. Apple describes this as a change in how iTunes is split up on PC, not as an end of the app.

How to install the apps safely
Use the Microsoft Store as the download source. Start from Apple’s official Windows download page, then follow its Microsoft Store links for the app you need. To install Apple Devices, the steps Apple gives in its Apple Devices setup guide are:
- Open Microsoft Store from the Start menu.
- Search for Apple Devices.
- Select the Apple Devices app in the results.
- Select Get and wait for the installation to finish.
Repeat the same steps for Apple Music, Apple TV, or iTunes, searching for the app name in Microsoft Store.

Keeping the apps updated and fixing install problems
- Updates: Apple says you can check for updates to these apps in Microsoft Store.
- iTunes download or management problems: Apple’s download guide directs you to Microsoft for help with Microsoft Store issues.
- Apple Devices cannot see your media: confirm that Apple Music and Apple TV are installed, since Apple states they must be present for Apple Devices to work with them.
Regional and feature limits
Apple says store availability and features can differ by country or region. Apple Music is not available in every market, and Apple TV and some of its features are not available everywhere. Before you rely on a feature, check Apple’s country and region availability information for your location.
The Apple pages covered here do not state a specific Windows 11 build or hardware minimum for these apps, so do not treat this article as a compatibility guarantee for your particular PC.

Choosing the right route
For most readers the decision comes down to three questions: what you want to play, whether you need to manage an iPhone or iPad, and whether you already have content in iTunes, Apple Music, or Apple TV. Install Apple Music for music, Apple TV for video, Apple Devices for device management, and iTunes when your main need is podcasts or audiobooks.
