If an Apify website screenshot contains only the top of a page, first check the selected Actor’s input for full-page capture. If that is already enabled, investigate whether the page finished rendering, whether lazy-loaded content needs scrolling, and whether the Actor’s height limit truncated the image. The exact field names and available controls depend on the Actor you ran.
1. Confirm which Apify Actor you ran
Apify has multiple screenshot Actors, and their inputs are not interchangeable. Open the exact Actor’s Store page or input schema and compare it with the input used for your run. For example, one Website Screenshot Generator labels the option “Screenshot type: fullPage,” while a separate Actor schema uses a boolean named fullPage. Those examples do not establish a universal field name or default. Apify
Check the run’s input rather than copying a setting from another Actor’s documentation. If you share the Actor ID and its run input when asking for help, others can give advice specific to that schema.
2. Set the capture mode to full page
A viewport screenshot covers only the visible browser window. It will not include content farther down the page. In the selected Actor’s input, choose its whole-page or full-page mode, then run the capture again. Confirm the setting actually appears in the run input; changing a default in your notes or in a different Actor’s schema has no effect on the run.

3. Wait for the page’s content to render
A full-page setting cannot capture content that has not appeared yet. Review the Actor’s supported page-readiness setting, such as a waitUntil-type option if provided, and any extra-delay input. The Website Screenshot Generator example includes a wait-until selection and extra delay, but no fixed delay is guaranteed to suit every site. Start with the Actor’s documented options and adjust based on what the page does during the run.
- If the page is missing text or sections that appear after scripts run, allow more time using a supported delay or readiness option.
- If the page shows a loading state or an incomplete layout, inspect the Actor’s run output and try again after adjusting its documented wait settings.
- Do not assume that a longer delay fixes every failure: a blocked request, a page error, or an unsupported site behavior may need a different diagnosis.
4. Trigger content that loads on scroll
Some sites load images or sections only when a visitor scrolls near them. A screenshot taken without scrolling may therefore omit content even when full-page mode is selected. Check whether the Actor offers a scroll-to-bottom option or equivalent behavior and enable it if the schema supports it. This setting is not available in every Actor.

When scrolling is supported, rerun the capture and inspect the resulting image for content that appeared below the fold. If the Actor has no scroll behavior, do not assume another Actor’s field will work: use only options documented for the Actor you selected.
5. Check for a maximum height or truncation
Long pages can exceed an Actor’s output-height limit. If its schema includes a maximum-height setting—sometimes named along the lines of maxHeight—compare the configured cap with the page height reported by the run. Some Actors also return fields such as pageHeight or truncated; check whether your Actor provides them and what the particular run reports.

If the output is marked as truncated, raise the height cap only within the range the Actor allows. If the page is taller than that limit, the Actor may not be able to return it as one complete image; consult that Actor’s documentation for supported output behavior rather than assuming a limit can be bypassed.
6. Read the run’s output metadata
Inspect the result record and the image together. Depending on the Actor, its output may include a screenshot key, dimensions, format, capture time, page height, or truncation status. These fields are Actor-specific. Use the metadata available for your run to distinguish a viewport-mode input from a height cap or a page-rendering problem.

- Image ends at the viewport boundary: recheck the full-page mode in this run’s input.
- Image is full height but sections are empty or missing: investigate readiness settings and scroll-triggered loading.
- Image stops at a consistent height: check the configured maximum and any truncation indicator.
- Metadata does not explain the result: consult the exact Actor’s schema and output documentation; the available evidence varies by Actor.
How to compare screenshot Actors for this problem
If the current Actor cannot capture the page as needed, compare candidates using the options that affect this specific failure—not just the label “screenshot.” Check each Actor’s current schema and output documentation for:
- Full-page capture as distinct from viewport capture.
- Page-readiness controls and a post-load delay.
- Scrolling to trigger lazy-loaded content.
- A maximum image or page height, and whether truncation is reported.
- Run metadata that helps diagnose a particular URL.
These controls appear across different Actor pages; they are not necessarily available together in any single Actor. Verify the exact Actor’s current inputs and output before switching or building a workflow around a field.
