There is no evidence-backed universal winner between ApiFlash and Screenshotlayer. ApiFlash documents request handling, quota visibility, Chrome-based rendering, and PNG/JPEG/WebP output in greater detail. Screenshotlayer publishes more explicit information about concurrent workers, CDN delivery, viewport customization, and its tiered plan features. Choose by the exact limits and controls your integration needs—and verify Screenshotlayer’s current service status and support before relying on it in production. No independent apples-to-apples speed, fidelity, or reliability comparison is established.
ApiFlash vs. Screenshotlayer at a glance
The meaningful distinction is what each vendor documents, not a proven difference in capture quality or speed. ApiFlash specifies a request-rate model and quota headers; Screenshotlayer publishes simultaneous worker counts and more detail about delivery and export options. Those are different operating limits, not comparable performance benchmarks.
| Decision point | ApiFlash | Screenshotlayer |
|---|---|---|
| Capture endpoint and request method | https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage; GET and POST, with a valid access key. By default returns image bytes; JSON mode returns a document with links. ApiFlash documentation |
Endpoint syntax and request method are not specified in the cited product and pricing information. Check the vendor’s current documentation before implementation. |
| Formats documented | PNG, JPEG, WebP. ApiFlash FAQ | PNG by default, JPEG, and GIF. WebP is listed for paid tiers. FAQ and pricing |
| Throughput information | Leaky-bucket limit of 20 requests per second with burst size 400; above sustained rate, requests are delayed, and requests beyond burst capacity can receive HTTP 429. ApiFlash documentation | Paid plans list 10, 20, or 40 dedicated workers, described as simultaneous screenshot capacity. A worker count is not a requests-per-second guarantee. Screenshotlayer pricing |
| Quota and failure visibility | Quota headers and a quota endpoint are documented. Failure codes include 400, 401, 402, 403, 429, and 500. ApiFlash documentation | Comparable quota-header, error-code, or overage details are not established in the cited material. Confirm them with the current API documentation or vendor. |
| Customization and delivery highlights | Chrome-based capture is documented; supported request options should be checked in the documentation for the particular capture workflow. ApiFlash documentation | Product page lists viewport/device controls, full-height captures, CSS injection, delay, cache TTL or forced refresh, URL encryption, custom user agent and language headers, CDN storage, and S3/FTP export. When ApiFlash is the better fit
You need explicit request-rate behavior
ApiFlash documents a sustained rate of 20 requests per second and a burst size of 400. Work above the sustained rate is delayed; requests beyond the burst capacity can return HTTP 429. This helps you design a queue and understand possible throttling, but it is not evidence that a page will render faster than with Screenshotlayer.
The documentation also says repeated identical failed captures are rate-limited to five per hour. Avoid retry loops that resubmit the same failing URL: inspect the page and request, apply bounded backoff, and record the result so your system does not keep issuing a request that cannot succeed.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
You want documented quota signals and multiple image formats
ApiFlash documents quota headers and a quota endpoint, which can support usage monitoring. Its documented image formats are PNG, JPEG, and WebP. Confirm how your chosen response mode behaves in your implementation: the default is image bytes, while JSON response mode returns a JSON document with links.
You can account for browser-rendering caveats
ApiFlash describes its service as using an up-to-date version of Chrome and AWS Lambda; those are vendor statements about its architecture, not an independent assessment. The FAQ cautions that strict bot protections may still block captures, system fonts can differ, and custom headers applied to font requests may trigger browser security restrictions. Test pages that rely on bot checks, unusual fonts, or cross-origin assets before standardizing on the service.
When Screenshotlayer is the better fit
You need documented worker concurrency or export options
Screenshotlayer’s paid tiers list dedicated workers: 10 on Basic, 20 on Professional, and 40 on Enterprise. The vendor describes one worker as a server entity handling one screenshot, so the count indicates simultaneous captures. It should not be read as a guaranteed request rate, render time, or head-to-head speed result.

Reliability and maintenance: what the public evidence does—and does not—show
Do not treat Screenshotlayer’s uptime statement as an audited SLA
Screenshotlayer’s FAQ says uptime is “around 99.9%,” and the same FAQ says it does not offer public statistics. Treat that as a vendor statement, not an independently verified uptime record or contractual service-level commitment. Ask for current support and service-status terms if downtime would interrupt a production workflow. Screenshotlayer FAQ
The archived repository is not proof the hosted API has stopped
GitHub marks the Screenshotlayer API repository archived on June 20, 2024. That status establishes the repository is archived; it does not establish that the hosted service is discontinued. Conversely, live product or pricing pages alone do not prove active API maintenance or responsive support. Test a real account and obtain a current service-status and support statement before adopting it for a critical dependency. Screenshotlayer GitHub repository

Keep similarly named listings separate
APILayer Marketplace separately lists a “Screenshot API,” including a $19.99 Starter plan for 7,500 requests. The available information does not establish that this listing is ApiFlash or Screenshotlayer. Do not combine its plan quotas or product identity with either service unless APILayer confirms the relationship. APILayer Marketplace listing

- Write down your output contract. Decide whether your consumer needs PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF, image bytes or a JSON response with links, and whether full-height output, a fixed viewport, or a storage export is necessary.
- Size request volume separately from concurrency. Estimate monthly captures and peak parallel jobs. ApiFlash’s requests-per-second/burst limits and Screenshotlayer’s worker counts describe different controls; neither number alone tells you end-to-end render speed.
- Test representative URLs. Include a normal page, a long or lazy-loaded page, a page with fonts or canvas, and a page protected by bot checks. Compare the returned artifact and failure behavior using the same pages and conditions; no independent comparison here establishes a winner.
- Model the failure path. For ApiFlash, handle documented HTTP errors, quota signals, throttling, and repeated-failure limits. For Screenshotlayer, obtain current documentation on errors, quota accounting, and overages rather than assuming those details match another API.
- Confirm commercial, support, and continuity terms. Verify current plan inclusions, service status, support response commitments, and any contractual SLA before routing business-critical captures through either service.
- Run a small production-shaped pilot. Track successful captures, failed loads, latency under your own workload, image differences, consumed quota, and recovery behavior. Your own tested pages and account terms are more decision-useful than treating published architecture claims as a benchmark.
ScreenshotNeo: an alternative to try first
If your main concern is getting usable captures without billing for bot checks or failed page loads, consider ScreenshotNeo, a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its stated differentiators are that it accepts consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; only clean shots are billed, while bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. It also provides MCP tools for AI agents and supports PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF output. These are ScreenshotNeo’s own product facts, not a comparative benchmark against the two services above.
Its published plans are Free with 1,000 shots per month and no card, Starter at $5 for 3,000, Growth at $15 for 15,000, Pro at $39 for 60,000, Scale at $99 for 250,000, and Business at $249 for 1,000,000; yearly billing gives two months free, and every feature is on every plan. Check the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options and setup.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does ApiFlash or Screenshotlayer have a proven speed advantage?
No independent apples-to-apples speed comparison is established. Their published rate and worker figures measure different things, not comparative rendering speed.
Is the APILayer Marketplace Screenshot API the same as ApiFlash?
The available product listing does not establish that identity. Treat it as a separate product unless APILayer confirms otherwise.
Does an archived Screenshotlayer GitHub repository mean the API is discontinued?
No. The repository archive date does not establish the status of the hosted API; verify service continuity and support directly with the vendor.
