Quick comparison
| Decision point | ApiFlash | PagePixels | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core model | Chrome-based screenshot API described for HTTPS GET and POST requests, returning an image or JSON links. | REST API and web app positioned around screenshot automation, scheduling, and multi-step capture. | ApiFlash for simple API calls; PagePixels for managed workflows. |
| Capture controls | URL, JPEG/PNG/WebP, viewport dimensions, full page, quality, delay, scrolling, cache TTL, and response type. | Mobile emulation, full-page or element capture, waits, headers, cookies, CSS/JavaScript injection, and multi-step actions. | Depends on whether you need basic parameters or interactions. |
| Automation | Documentation reviewed centers on requests; do not assume undocumented workflow features are absent. | Advertises recurring schedules, archived captures, change alerts, integrations, and multi-step interactions. | PagePixels for monitoring and repeatable workflows. |
| Free allowance | 100 screenshots per month. | 25 screenshots per month. | ApiFlash for a larger free allowance. |
| Published paid tiers | $7/1,000; $35/10,000; $180/100,000 screenshots per month. | $16.99/3,000; $24.99/10,000; $49.99/15,000; $59.99/30,000; $99.99/50,000; $139.99/70,000; $199.99/100,000; $399.99/200,000 per month. | Calculate using your actual volume and separately metered features. |
| Usage controls | Quota headers, a quota endpoint, caching behavior, and a stated 20 requests/second leaky-bucket rate with a 400-request burst. | Screenshot requests over allowance return a usage-limit error; AI analysis, real-location bandwidth, and domain research are separately metered. | ApiFlash for explicit request/quota controls; PagePixels for usage categories visible in its pricing model. |
| Integrations | Homepage advertises S3 export. | Lists Zapier, Make, n8n, Power Automate, Slack, Dropbox, webhooks, Chrome, and an MCP server, stated as available on every plan. | PagePixels for no-code or team integrations. |
ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try: it removes common consent banners and widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and has a $5 paid plan.
How ApiFlash works
ApiFlash documents https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage as an HTTPS endpoint requiring an access key. You can send GET or POST requests. The documented defaults are a 1,920 by 1,080 viewport, JPEG output, quality 80, and a cache TTL of 86,400 seconds. TTL can be set from 0 through 2,592,000 seconds. Supported image formats are JPEG, PNG, and WebP.

--data-urlencode "url=https://example.com"
--data-urlencode "format=png"
--output page.png
Useful capture parameters
- Viewport: set width and height for desktop or mobile layouts.
- Full page: request a page-length image instead of the initial viewport.
- Delay and scrolling: allow client-rendered content or lazy sections to appear.
- Quality: adjust lossy JPEG output; use PNG or WebP when that better fits your pipeline.
- Caching: choose a TTL based on how often the source changes. A zero TTL favors freshness; a longer TTL reduces repeated rendering.
- Response type: request the image directly or set
response_type=jsonto receive links.

Node.js
const query = new URLSearchParams({
access_key: 'YOUR_ACCESS_KEY',
url: 'https://example.com',
format: 'png',
full_page: 'true'
});
const response = await fetch(`https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage?${query}`);
if (!response.ok) throw new Error(`ApiFlash returned ${response.status}`);
const buffer = Buffer.from(await response.arrayBuffer());
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('page.png', buffer));
Rate limits and quota checks
ApiFlash states a 20-request-per-second leaky-bucket rate and a burst size of 400. Requests above the sustained rate may be delayed; requests beyond the burst can receive HTTP 429. Read the quota response headers and use the documented quota endpoint before launching high-concurrency jobs. Implement exponential backoff for 429 responses rather than retrying immediately.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What PagePixels adds
PagePixels presents a broader automation product than a bare URL-to-image call. Its documented and advertised controls include mobile emulation, full-page and element capture, wait times, custom headers and cookies, CSS/JavaScript injection, and multi-step actions. That matters when a target requires a click, a login sequence, a dismiss action, or a predictable wait for client-rendered content.
Schedules, alerts, and integrations
The service advertises recurring schedules, archived captures, change alerts, and integrations with Zapier, Make, n8n, Power Automate, Slack, Dropbox, webhooks, Chrome, and an MCP server. Its integrations page says these are available on every plan. Confirm the exact trigger, retention, authentication method, and destination behavior in the current product documentation before designing a production workflow.
Additional metering
PagePixels pricing distinguishes screenshot captures from AI analysis, real-location bandwidth, and domain-research usage. The pricing page describes 25 monthly AI-analysis credits and paid top-ups of $9.99 per 1,000 credits. Treat those as separate budget lines; a screenshot plan price is not necessarily your total monthly cost.

Pricing: compare your workload, not the headline tier
Start with the number of captures, not the number of pages. A site monitored every 15 minutes across 20 URLs produces 57,600 scheduled captures in a 30-day month before retries or alternate viewports. Add mobile and desktop variants separately.
- List each URL or state that must be captured.
- Multiply by capture frequency, viewport variants, and any retry policy.
- Separate one-time screenshots from recurring monitoring.
- Add AI analysis, real-location bandwidth, or domain research if your workflow uses them.
- Recheck the live plan page for currency, taxes, annual billing, overages, and limits.
At low volume, ApiFlash’s advertised $7 tier includes 1,000 monthly screenshots, while PagePixels starts at $16.99 for 3,000. At larger volumes, PagePixels lists more intermediate tiers, while ApiFlash lists 10,000 and 100,000 options. Neither ladder alone proves lower total cost because extras and billing conditions differ.
Which should you choose?
Choose ApiFlash when
- Your application can turn a URL and capture parameters into one request.
- You want documented image formats, viewport settings, caching, response modes, quota headers, and a stated rate limit.
- You prefer to build scheduling, alerting, storage, and retries in your own system.
- S3 export advertised on the homepage fits your delivery path.
Choose PagePixels when
- You need recurring schedules, archived captures, change alerts, or multi-step interactions.
- The target requires cookies, headers, injected CSS/JavaScript, mobile emulation, or element-level capture.
- Your team benefits from Zapier, Make, n8n, Power Automate, Slack, Dropbox, webhooks, Chrome, or MCP integrations.
- You have budgeted separately metered AI analysis or location-based bandwidth.
Run a fair proof of concept
Send the same representative URLs through both services with identical viewport, full-page, delay, and format requirements. Include a JavaScript-heavy page, a long page with lazy images, an authenticated page if permitted, and a page that changes frequently. Record HTTP status, total latency, image dimensions, missing content, cache behavior, and monthly usage. No independent benchmark establishes that either service is faster, more accurate, more reliable, or higher quality.

Common implementation problems
The image is blank or incomplete
Increase the documented delay or enable scrolling/full-page capture. Client-rendered pages may need a longer wait. Compare a fresh request with a cached request by changing the cache TTL.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
You receive HTTP 429 from ApiFlash
You exceeded the stated burst or sustained rate. Queue requests, cap concurrency, honor retry delays, and inspect quota headers. Do not run unlimited parallel retries.
A PagePixels job exceeds the allowance
Check the screenshot counter and any separately metered AI, location, or research usage. Reduce schedule frequency, remove duplicate viewport jobs, or move to a tier that covers the calculated monthly total.

ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try when you want a single request rather than maintaining browser automation. It accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor, then removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed as clean shots, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
It also offers an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. Every plan includes features such as full-page and element capture, device presets, custom CSS/JavaScript, waits, request blocking, headers, cookies, user agents, geolocation, PDF output, signed links, async webhooks, bulk capture, caching, and a usage API.
