To deploy a team in Aniimo’s Tracing the Trail: The Shadow of Legend event, open an unlocked clue, review its area preferences and reward preview, select at least two Aniimo—including a leader—and check the grade and timer before deploying. A completed dispatch earns its listed rewards; recalling an unfinished one may forfeit them, so read the in-game confirmation before you end a run.
Where to find the investigation board
Open Events and select Tracing the Trail: The Shadow of Legend. Choose an available clue card to see its area report, dispatch hints, team selection, timer, and reward preview. The event guide describes a five-clue board, with Nimbus Fields available first and later clues unlocking on staggered countdowns. The guide’s historical event dates were 20 September through 9 December 2026 (UTC+8); those dates describe the event calendar, not a countdown that applies to every player now. AniimoGuide.com’s event guide and NerdsChalk’s guide report these details.
How to deploy a team
- Open an unlocked clue. Read the clue’s report and area-specific dispatch hints before choosing Aniimo.
- Fill the party slots. The board provides four slots and requires at least two Aniimo, including a leader. The event reference quotes the rule as “At least 2 required, lead Aniimo must be deployed.”
- Match companions to the area. The reported grade depends on how many of the three companion slots meet that clue area’s preference. A high combat level by itself does not guarantee a better investigation grade, and a lineup that suits one clue may not suit another.
- Choose the leader deliberately. The leader matters for the potential-related reward. If you want a particular Aniimo to receive a possible Potential +1, place it in the leader slot before dispatch.
- Review the final panel and deploy. Quick Select can draft a party, but inspect each selection afterward. Recheck the leader, grade, reward preview, and displayed duration whenever you change the lineup.
The event guides describe the activity as dispatching teams to investigate signs of Legendary Aniimo. The official Aniimo website confirms the game identity but does not document these event mechanics, so use the live event panel as the authority for the options and rules shown in your client.

How clue countdowns and investigation timers work
There are two different waits: a countdown before some clue cards unlock, and the dispatch timer after you send a team. The guide reports later clues opening on staggered countdowns; a locked card therefore does not mean your active team’s investigation is still running.
A secondary event guide reports a four-hour base investigation, or two hours and 48 minutes for a squad containing a Prismana Form or Sparkling Aniimo. Treat these as reported line-up-specific timings, not a universal duration: check the timer displayed for your selected team before deploying. AniimoGuide.com reports these figures.
What grades and rewards to expect
According to the event guide, each completed investigation grants one Irisalis Petal. Flux Crystals vary by grade: grade B gives none, grade A gives two, and grade S gives three. The guide also describes a Chance Encounter Gift pool containing one of the following: Random Leader Aniimo Potential +1, one Starcryst Essence, five Capaseed, or one Vein Essence. These are reported event rewards; check the current reward preview in the game in case an update has changed them. AniimoGuide.com reports the reward details.

The guide reports separate clue-board milestones: one clue gives 50 Capaseed, three clues give 75 Capaseed, and five clues give two Capafruit. These are progress-track rewards rather than the per-dispatch grade rewards. AniimoGuide.com lists the milestone amounts.

Is it safe to recall an investigation early?
Recall ends the active dispatch and returns the team so you can make a different arrangement. NerdsChalk reports that an unfinished run it observed paid no rewards. AniimoGuide.com reports that early recall does not consume items or trigger a cooldown, but that does not mean the incomplete dispatch pays out. These are secondary guide reports, not an official rules page; inspect the confirmation shown in your game before accepting the recall.
How to aim for an S grade
Use the clue’s own area preferences rather than relying on a fixed team or combat level. Review how many companions match the stated preference, then compare the grade and reward preview the game displays. Since the leader slot serves a separate potential-reward purpose, select the leader for that goal while using the companion slots to satisfy the clue’s preferences. The best lineup can change from one clue to another.
