Seven people were reported dead after a truck collided with a Bolero pickup carrying devotees on the Samruddhi Mahamarg in Maharashtra’s Amravati district early on October 2, 2026. Later reports put the number of injured at about 19 or 20; earlier reports gave a higher injury count while deaths were still being confirmed. Police were investigating, and the reports available do not establish the cause of the collision.
What happened near Dhamangaon Railway
The crash occurred around 12:40–12:45 a.m. near Dhamangaon Railway, close to channel or chainage 97 on the Samruddhi Mahamarg, according to reports published on October 2. Why casualty figures differ
Initial reporting said five people died at the scene and 21 were injured. Two injured people were later declared dead at a hospital, bringing the reported death toll to seven. Later accounts described about 19 or 20 people as injured. The figures reflect updates as casualties were confirmed, as well as a small difference between later reports; they should not be treated as one precisely reconciled final injury count. Who was in the pickup and where were they going?
The pickup was carrying devotees and a Durga idol from Shegaon toward Wardha ahead of Navratri. Hindustan Times identified the passengers as young devotees and members of a temple group from Sindi Meghe in Wardha. Hindustan Times; News On AIR.

Where were the injured treated?
Those injured were initially taken to Dhamangaon Rural Hospital. Some were referred to a hospital in Wardha for further treatment. A later report said five injured people remained in critical condition; that is a time-sensitive update, not a statement of their current condition or eventual outcome. What is known about the cause?
Police were investigating, and the reports reviewed did not establish a final cause or assign fault. Hindustan Times attributed this statement to Amravati superintendent of police Niketan Kadam: “Police teams reached the scene immediately to initiate rescue operations and begin investigating the collision.”

The Times of India later reported that police cited camera-recorded speeds of 10 km/h for the pickup-trailer and 50 km/h for the truck about a kilometre before impact. Those reported readings describe the vehicles at that point; by themselves, they do not establish what caused the crash or who was at fault. The Times of India.

The Times of India reported figures attributed to Maharashtra highway police: from the expressway’s inauguration in December 2022 through August 2026, there were 636 accidents, 579 deaths and 649 injuries. These are cumulative figures reported by the outlet and attributed to police, not an independently verified dataset here. They provide broader context but do not explain the circumstances of this individual crash. The Times of India.
