AMD has identified Medusa as a future client-processor family and placed it on a roadmap with a 2027 expectation. But the official AMD materials reviewed do not confirm that Medusa uses Zen 6 CPU cores, RDNA 5 integrated graphics, or a 2.5D chiplet interconnect. Those specifications should be treated as unverified, not as settled features.

What AMD has confirmed about Medusa

AMD has named Medusa among its next-generation client-processor families in its client processor roadmap announcement. In a 2025 corporate blog post, AMD described Medusa as an upcoming family and gave a 2027 expectation. That is a roadmap statement made at the time of publication, not a confirmed launch date or evidence that the product is currently available.

The same blog described an expected performance increase of “up to 10x” from first-generation Ryzen AI to the upcoming Medusa family. This is AMD’s expectation, not an independently established result, a direct CPU benchmark, or a confirmed Medusa specification. AMD also said it had more than 250 AI PC platforms in market; that portfolio figure does not establish anything about Medusa’s hardware.

Are Zen 6, RDNA 5 and 2.5D confirmed?

No. The AMD materials reviewed establish none of these three details as a Medusa specification. AMD’s roadmap names Medusa, but its public materials cited here do not provide a product brief or technical documentation confirming the CPU architecture, integrated graphics generation, or package interconnect.

Medusa uses a 2.5D chiplet interconnect Not confirmed

AMD does describe its Zen design approach as using processor chiplets, with additional chiplets added to a package for higher-performance models. Its Zen architecture page lists Zen 5 as the latest generation in the Ryzen and EPYC tables reviewed. That provides context about AMD’s documented design history; it does not establish Zen 6’s architecture or Medusa’s packaging.

What AMD’s earlier products can—and cannot—tell us

AMD has previously paired CPU and graphics architectures in a single mobile processor family. Its 2022 roadmap announcement described Phoenix Point as a planned combination of Zen 4 CPU cores and RDNA 3 graphics, while also discussing chiplets and high-speed interconnect approaches. Those examples show that AMD has used mixed CPU, GPU, and packaging designs before. They are not proof that Medusa will use the same approach, or any specific successor to it.

AMD’s 2026 annual report says Ryzen AI 300 mobile processors launched with Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 graphics, and also discusses Ryzen AI 400 products. That is evidence of a documented earlier CPU/GPU pairing, not a Medusa specification. The report also illustrates why an older roadmap expectation should not be read as a statement of current product availability.

What remains unknown about Medusa

Beyond its place as a future client-processor family and the historical 2027 roadmap expectation, the reviewed sources do not establish the following:

AMD Ryzen™ 7 9700X 8-Core, 16-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor
  • This dominant gaming processor can deliver fast 100+ FPS performance in the world's most popular games
  • 8 Cores and 16 processing threads, based on AMD "Zen 5" architecture
  • 5.5 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 40 MB cache, DDR5-5600 support
  • For the state-of-the-art Socket AM5 platform, can support PCIe 5.0 on select motherboards
  • Cooler not included
  • Exact CPU architecture or core layout
  • Integrated graphics architecture, configuration, or capabilities
  • Whether the package uses a 2.5D interconnect, and how it is implemented
  • SKU lineup or intended market segments
  • Memory support, power targets, or platform compatibility
  • Socket, price, launch date, or retail availability

Until AMD publishes product documentation, claims on these points should be identified as reporting or rumor rather than AMD-confirmed specifications. There are no verified Medusa retail configurations in the sources reviewed, so comparing supposed models or recommending compatible accessories would be premature.
