AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.8.1 was a WHQL-certified Windows driver released on August 4, 2025. It added Radeon RX 9060 support, launch support for several games, more FSR 4 integrations and targeted fixes. It is no longer AMD’s current driver in 2026, so install it mainly when you need one of its specific fixes or compatibility additions—not as a blanket performance upgrade.
Quick verdict
Install 25.8.1 if you have an RX 9060, need support for one of its newly listed games, want one of the listed FSR 4 or HYPR-Tune integrations, or are affected by a fix for Chrome video playback, Monster Hunter Wilds, Battlefield 2042, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Oculus Rift S or Warzone. Owners of Polaris or Vega cards should use the separate legacy package.
Stay on a known-good driver if you play a title in AMD’s known-issues list, rely on laptop-specific features, use an unsupported handheld or Apple Boot Camp, or have no reason to change a stable installation. AMD subsequently released 25.9.1 and 26.x drivers, including 26.6.1, so 25.8.1 is now a previous-version option.

Additional FSR 4 games
AMD lists FSR 4 support for Cyberpunk 2077, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, Mafia: The Old Country, Arena Breakout: Infinite, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, Wreckfest 2 and Lies of P. FSR 4 still depends on the game’s implementation and GPU. The release notes do not promise the feature for every Radeon product that can install the driver; several FSR 4 issues specifically concern RX 9000-series cards.
HYPR-Tune, Vulkan and ROCm
HYPR-Tune profiles are listed for The Alters and F1 25. HYPR-Tune is an automatic configuration feature in AMD’s HYPR-RX ecosystem, not a universal performance mode or a guaranteed frame-rate increase. AMD also lists expanded Vulkan extension support and ROCm on WSL support for the Radeon RX 7700 XT.

- Fixed Oculus Rift S texture problems on RX 5000- and RX 6000-series cards.
- Added more Vulkan Llama.cpp parameters on Ryzen AI MAX+ products.
Known issues to check before installing
| Game or workload | Affected hardware or condition | Symptom and practical response |
|---|---|---|
| Mafia: The Old Country | RX 6600-series | Corruption may occur. Avoid updating solely for this game unless you can test and roll back. |
| The Last of Us Part II | RX 7900-series | Intermittent crashes are listed; stay on a stable driver if this is a primary game. |
| Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 | RX 9000-series | Intermittent crashes may occur. |
| WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers | RX 9000-series with FSR 4 enabled | Crashes or driver timeouts may occur. Disable FSR 4 or revert if instability starts. |
| FBC: Firebreak | Some Ryzen AI 300- and Ryzen 7000-series processors | Intermittent crashes are listed. |
| VR headsets | Certain Radeon products, including RX 7000-series, at 80Hz or 90Hz | Stutter may occur. AMD’s temporary workaround is to change the headset refresh rate. |
| NBA 2K25 MyCareer | RX 9070-series | Intermittent crashes may occur. |
These warnings mean WHQL certification is not a guarantee of trouble-free operation in every game or configuration.
Compatibility and package selection
Polaris and Vega need a different download
Radeon VII, RX Vega, Radeon Pro Duo, RX 500/500X, RX 400 and Radeon 600-series mobile graphics use AMD’s dedicated Polaris/Vega package. Its 25.8.1 notes list only two changes: a fix for intermittent video playback not appearing in AMD Software and a fix for intermittent sidebar-view misalignment. Its driver version is 23.19.23.11.
Windows requirements and exclusions
- Windows 11 version 21H2 or later.
- Windows 10 64-bit version 1809 or later.
- Actual support can vary by Radeon model.
- This package is for Windows, not Apple Boot Camp.
- AMD does not support handheld gaming devices with this Adrenalin package; use the handheld manufacturer’s driver.
Laptops, all-in-ones and mixed-GPU systems
For notebooks and all-in-one PCs, AMD recommends the OEM driver because it is validated for display switching, power management, hotkeys and other system-specific functions. If a system combines RDNA graphics with Polaris or Vega, AMD says to use its Auto-Detect and Install Driver Updates option rather than selecting only the standard package.

How to download and install 25.8.1
- Identify the exact Radeon GPU and whether the computer is a desktop, laptop, all-in-one or handheld.
- Open the main 25.8.1 release notes, the Polaris/Vega notes or AMD’s previous-driver page.
- Choose the standard package for supported current Radeon products, or the dedicated Polaris/Vega package for older cards. Laptop owners should first check the manufacturer’s support page.
- Download the Windows 10/11 64-bit installer.
- Sign in with an administrator account or provide administrator credentials.
- Complete the installation and restart Windows if prompted.
- Confirm the installed Adrenalin version, then test the game or workload that motivated the update.
Keep the previous known-good installer available before changing drivers, especially on a laptop, a mixed-GPU system or an RX 9000 system using FSR 4.
Recovery if the update causes trouble
- Wrong package: Verify the GPU family and install the Polaris/Vega package when applicable.
- Laptop feature loss: Reinstall the OEM driver if brightness, display switching, power management, hotkeys or sleep behavior breaks.
- Game crashes: Disable the affected feature, such as FSR 4, or roll back to the previous known-good package.
- VR stutter: Try changing the headset refresh rate from 80Hz or 90Hz, AMD’s documented temporary workaround.
- Mixed graphics: Run AMD Auto-Detect and Install Driver Updates.
- Handheld or Boot Camp: Do not force-install this package; use support from the device manufacturer or Apple.
Should you install it now?
| Your situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| RX 9060 owner needing initial support | Install if your system is otherwise compatible. |
| Playing a newly supported game or needing a listed fix | Install, then test that title or workload. |
| RX 9000 owner using FSR 4 | Test one game at a time because known crashes and timeouts remain. |
| Polaris/Vega card | Use the separate package only if its two listed fixes matter. |
| Laptop or all-in-one with stable OEM software | Prefer the manufacturer driver unless a specific 25.8.1 change is essential. |
| VR at 80Hz or 90Hz | Wait if changing refresh rate is unacceptable. |
| Stable system with no relevant need | There is no universal reason to move to this historical release; consider a newer supported driver instead. |
Released August 4, 2025, 25.8.1 is best understood as a targeted compatibility release. Its benefits are clearest for the RX 9060, newly supported games and listed fixes; its known issues make an immediate update hard to justify for unaffected, stable systems.
