AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.3.1 launched on March 6, 2025 as the Windows release driver for the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. It introduced the original driver-level FSR 4 upgrade path, AFMF 2.1 improvements, RX 9000-specific tools and other fixes. As of August 18, 2026, it is a historical release rather than AMD’s current recommended driver.

What exactly was released?
Adrenalin 25.3.1 is AMD’s consumer Radeon software package for supported 64-bit Windows systems, not a Radeon PRO enterprise driver, Linux Mesa release or general-purpose handheld package. AMD identified the package as driver version 24.30.31.03 and Windows Driver Store version 32.0.13031.3015. It passed both the WHQL test suite and Microsoft WHQL certification.

Why FSR 4 was the headline feature
25.3.1 added an FSR 4 upgrade toggle in AMD Software. On eligible hardware, the toggle could upgrade supported games that already included FSR 3.1 to AMD’s machine-learning-based FSR 4 upscaling.
At launch, FSR 4 was exclusive to the Radeon RX 9070 Series and was announced for more than 30 games. It was not a universal conversion layer for every game or graphics API: the game needed compatible built-in FSR 3.1 support and the appropriate rendering path. AMD’s later technical documentation lists RX 9000-series hardware, Windows 10 or 11 and DirectX 12 for FSR 4; those later details should not be read as a promise that every title worked identically with the original driver. See AMD’s FSR 4 technical overview.
FSR 4 upscales and reconstructs an image. It is different from frame generation, which creates additional displayed frames between natively rendered frames.

Other major additions
AFMF 2.1
AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2.1 improved frame-generation image quality, temporal tracking and ghosting behavior. AMD listed support for Radeon RX 6000, RX 7000 and RX 9070-series graphics cards, plus Ryzen AI 300-series processors. Frame generation can raise displayed frame rates, but it does not equal a higher natively rendered frame rate and may introduce latency or artifacts depending on the game, API and settings.
RX 9070-series AI and software tools
- AMD Chat: a GPU-accelerated local/offline chatbot with text and image-generation functions, including answers about AMD hardware and help enabling selected Adrenalin features.
- AMD Image Inspector: an AI-assisted tool that captures game text and image data to help investigate visual-quality issues.
- AMD Install Manager: a new way to manage AMD graphics and chipset software installations.
- Automatic updates: an option to keep AMD Software updated.
AMD documented AMD Chat and Image Inspector as exclusive to Radeon RX 9070-series graphics cards in this release.
Radeon Image Sharpening 2
RIS 2 expanded sharpening to games, videos and the entire desktop on RX 9070-series cards. Sharpening enhances perceived edge detail; it is not the same reconstruction process as FSR upscaling.

HYPR-RX and HYPR-Tune
HYPR-Tune expanded HYPR-RX’s ability to enable in-game technologies such as FSR and Radeon Anti-Lag 2. AMD also added automatic FSR-plus-frame-generation configuration for Farming Simulator 25, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and Silent Hill 2. Availability still depends on the GPU, game, API and settings; HYPR-RX is not a guaranteed universal performance mode.
ROCm through WSL 2
For supported Radeon RX 7000-series hardware, AMD added official ROCm support through Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 for workloads including Llama 3 8B with vLLM, Stable Diffusion 3 and Hugging Face Transformers on Ubuntu 24.04. This is a specialized developer and AI-computing feature, subject to AMD’s separate WSL limitations, not a general gaming enhancement.

The package also covered many Ryzen, Ryzen AI, Ryzen PRO, Athlon and Athlon PRO systems with integrated Radeon graphics.
Laptop and all-in-one owners should check the computer maker’s driver first because OEM packages can contain system-specific display, power, camera and switchable-graphics support. AMD stated that this generic package did not support handheld gaming devices and was not intended for Radeon products in Apple Boot Camp. Linux users need a Linux graphics stack rather than this Windows installer. AMD supplied a separate mixed RDNA/Vega/Polaris package for applicable systems.
