In HotHardware’s April 3, 2025 account of Amazon’s CPU best-seller rankings, AMD Ryzen processors held all 10 of the top 10 positions and 18 of the top 20. That was a striking snapshot of one retailer’s rankings—not proof that AMD outsold Intel across the whole CPU market. The list’s date, coverage and sales channel all matter.

What the April 2025 Amazon ranking showed

HotHardware reported that Ryzen CPUs occupied the top 10 spots and 18 of the top 20 in the Amazon ranking it discussed. The result captured the products appearing near the top of a retailer’s best-seller list at that time. It did not measure every CPU sold, every retailer, or purchases by PC manufacturers and enterprise customers.

There was also a coverage limitation: HotHardware discussed 36 processor models, although Amazon’s list extended to 100. The report cited Intel’s Core i3-14100F at number 100, with 50+ sold in the prior month. That example illustrates why a top-20 concentration should not be mistaken for a complete account of the full list. HotHardware’s April 2025 report also questioned whether the third-party tracker was collecting data directly from Amazon’s list or using another method.

Amazon’s best-seller rank is a sales signal, not a market-share report

Amazon says Best Sellers Rank (BSR) compares a product with similar products in its category and is based on sales volume. Recent sales count more than older sales, and rankings can differ by category and national Amazon store. Amazon also cautions that rank is not a measure of product quality. Its seller guidance on Best Sellers Rank therefore supports treating the list as a changing retail sales signal, not a verdict on which CPU is best.

Retail rankings, estimated sales and shipment market share have different scopes and denominators. For example, Tom’s Hardware’s report of Mercury Research’s Q2 2026 desktop figures put AMD at 34.9% and Intel at 65.1% of desktop CPU unit share. Those broader desktop-market figures do not contradict a Ryzen-heavy Amazon list: one is a market-wide shipment-share measure, while the other is a retailer-specific ranking.

Later rankings show why the date matters

A ranking is a snapshot, not a permanent ordering. In a later account dated August 24, 2026, TechSpot placed AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D first, but also listed Intel’s Core Ultra 7 270K Plus at number six and Core i7-14700K at number nine. That list still showed a Ryzen CPU at the top while making clear that Intel models could appear among leading sellers. See TechSpot’s August 2026 ranking account.

What estimated Amazon US unit sales can—and cannot—tell you

Digital Citizen reported in September 2026 that third-party account TechEpiphany estimated Amazon US CPU sales at 31,950 AMD units and 5,100 Intel units for July 2026, then 28,750 AMD units and 7,800 Intel units for August 2026. These are estimates from one account tracking one retailer, not audited totals published by Amazon. Digital Citizen said Amazon does not publish CPU unit sales, Intel does not publish Amazon channel-share figures, and the public post’s detailed model breakdown could not be independently verified. The figures should not be treated as a full-market share calculation. Digital Citizen’s report explains those limits.

How to read an Amazon CPU bestseller claim

Before drawing a conclusion from an Amazon best-selling CPU list, check what the claim actually measures:

AMD Ryzen 5 5500 6-Core, 12-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler
  • Can deliver fast 100 plus FPS performance in the world's most popular games, discrete graphics card required
  • 6 Cores and 12 processing threads, bundled with the AMD Wraith Stealth cooler
  • 4.2 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 19 MB cache, DDR4-3200 support
  • For the advanced Socket AM4 platform
  • Store and geography: Is it Amazon US or another national store?
  • Date and period: Is it a dated ranking snapshot, or a sales estimate for a stated month?
  • Metric: Does it report category rank, estimated unit sales or market-wide shipment share?
  • Coverage: Does the source discuss the top 20, 36 models, the top 100 or the whole market?
  • Sales channel: Does it capture DIY retail, or also OEM system builders and enterprise purchases?

For someone choosing a processor, a bestseller rank cannot settle whether a CPU suits a particular build. Check current price, workload performance, motherboard and memory compatibility, and upgrade options separately; the reported ranking does not establish those buyer-specific factors.
