Amazon’s October 8, 2026 tablet announcement makes its gaming prospects more credible: the new Alexa Tablets run Android and include Google Play access, while the Alexa Tablet 11 pairs an eight-core processor and 8GB of RAM with a 2.5K 90Hz display. But the tablets had not yet begun shipping as of the announcement, and there are no independent game-performance results in the available sources. For now, Amazon’s new lineup is promising, not a proven gaming-tablet alternative.
What changed with Amazon’s new tablets?
Amazon announced three Alexa Tablets on October 8, 2026: the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11, and Alexa Tablet 8. The company says all three run Android and include full access to the Google Play Store. That is a meaningful change from the Fire OS approach: Google Play access gives buyers a broader route to Android games than the Amazon Appstore alone.
Broader access does not guarantee that every game will install or work well. Actual compatibility and performance depend on each game and device, and neither has been independently established for the new models in the sources available.

Alexa Tablet 11: the clearest gaming option
Amazon lists the 11-inch Alexa Tablet 11 with an eight-core processor, 8GB RAM, and a 2.5K display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It starts at $329.99. Amazon describes it as “designed for streaming, gaming, reading, and browsing.” These are manufacturer specifications and positioning, not evidence that demanding games run smoothly.

Alexa Tablet 12 Pro: higher-end claims, no comparative test
The 12-inch Alexa Tablet 12 Pro starts at $499.99. Amazon says it has a 120Hz display, a 4nm eight-core chip, and configurations with up to 16GB RAM, and positions it for graphic-intensive gaming. The available sources do not show independent tests comparing its game performance with the Tablet 11.
Alexa Tablet 8: lower starting price, less memory
The 8.7-inch Alexa Tablet 8 starts at $229.99 and has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, according to Amazon. Its smaller display and lower listed memory may make it the more portable, lower-cost option, but there is no independent evidence establishing how it handles particular games.

What the Fire Max 11 can—and can’t—tell us
The 2023 Fire Max 11 is useful context for Amazon’s previous tablet generation, but its results should not be treated as a preview of the Android Alexa Tablets. Amazon’s specifications page lists the Fire Max 11 with a 11-inch 2000×1200 display, 4GB RAM, a MediaTek MT8188J processor, and Fire OS 8. Amazon promoted Luna support and, at launch, called it “our biggest and most powerful tablet yet.”
Tom’s Guide’s 2023 review reported mixed gaming results on its Fire Max 11 review unit: less demanding games such as Stardew Valley ran well, while demanding games stuttered. The review also described Fortnite streamed through Luna as sluggish. Those observations apply to that reviewed Fire Max 11, not to the untested Alexa Tablet 11.

It’s great for downloading games, videos, books, and music for their on-the-go educational entertainment.
In the same review, Tom’s Guide reported Geekbench 5 multi-core scores of 1,084 for the Fire Max 11, 6,558 for the Pixel Tablet, and 8,579 for the iPad (10th generation). These are figures reported in that 2023 review, not current-generation scores or a direct test of the new Amazon tablets. Amazon’s separate launch claims that the Fire Max 11 was “almost 50% faster” than its next-fastest tablet and offered 14-hour battery life were company claims, not independent measurements.
TechRadar reported on October 7, 2026, that the Fire Max 11 had been discontinued in the United States. That report does not establish its availability in other countries; its mention of a possible successor was not confirmation of a product.

Can Luna make an Amazon tablet a gaming device?
Amazon Luna is a cloud-gaming option, distinct from installing and running a game locally. Amazon says Luna works on compatible Fire Tablets from 2018 onward and supports compatible Bluetooth controllers as well as the Luna Controller. The available compatibility information does not establish performance or latency on the new Alexa Tablets.
Cloud play depends on whether Luna and a particular game are available in your region, along with your network connection and controller compatibility. Check Amazon’s current supported-country and device information before relying on Luna; service availability can change.
Is Amazon too late for mobile gamers?
The announcement answers one longstanding weakness of Amazon tablets by bringing Android and Google Play access to the new lineup. That makes the Tablet 11 a more plausible option for someone who wants a broad Android app catalog and a larger screen. It does not yet answer the more important gaming questions: whether popular games are compatible, whether demanding titles sustain good performance, or how the devices compare in real use with competing tablets.
There is also no reliable market-share, sales, or player-preference figure in the available sources that can quantify whether Amazon is “too late.” The defensible conclusion is narrower: Amazon has made its tablet proposition more relevant to Android gamers, but the hardware’s gaming value remains unproven until independent testing and real-world availability provide evidence.
