Amazon announced on January 4, 2011, that it planned to release free Kindle apps tailored for Android and Windows LCD tablets during that year. It was an announcement of future plans, not confirmation that both tablet apps launched at the same time. Amazon later documented Android tablet support in April 2011; its separately announced Windows 8 app arrived in October 2012.
What Amazon announced in January 2011
Amazon said it would tailor its free Kindle apps for Android and Windows LCD tablet computers during 2011. The central idea was to let people read Kindle books on tablets as well as Kindle e-readers and phones. Amazon described Whispersync as keeping track of a reader’s last page so they could continue on another device.
At the time, Amazon reported that the Kindle Store offered more than 775,000 books. That was the company’s catalog figure in its January 2011 announcement, not a current count. Amazon’s January 4, 2011 announcement quoted Kindle Director Dorothy Nicholls: “Read on your Kindle, read on your tablet, read on your phone. We’ll keep track of your last page read, and make it easy.”

Android tablets: Honeycomb support in April 2011
On April 21, 2011, Amazon announced an update to Kindle for Android that supported tablets running Android Honeycomb, including the Motorola Xoom. Amazon also listed tablet-oriented changes such as integrated shopping and redesigned newspaper and magazine layouts. This documents an Android tablet milestone after the January plan; it does not establish that every detail of the original announcement applied identically to the update. - 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Windows tablets: a distinct Windows 8 app in October 2012
Amazon introduced Kindle for Windows 8 on October 25, 2012, and said it was available worldwide through the Windows Store. The release described Whispersync for a reader’s last-page position, bookmarks, notes, and highlights. This is a later Windows milestone; the available announcements do not establish that it was the same app or release track envisioned by the 2011 plan. See Amazon’s Windows 8 announcement.
Do you need a Kindle device to use the app?
No. Amazon’s current Kindle app guide says the app is free and that readers can access their Kindle library without owning a Kindle e-reader. The app is one way to read Kindle books on a compatible device; owning Kindle hardware is optional. See Amazon’s Kindle app guide.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Current desktop support is not the same as tablet compatibility
Amazon’s UK desktop support page, accessed October 4, 2026, lists Windows 11 and macOS 10.14 or later for its desktop app and says its legacy desktop app stopped being supported on June 30, 2026. Those details apply to the UK desktop support information; they do not establish whether an Android Kindle app runs on a Windows tablet. Check the support information for your region and device before relying on a specific compatibility claim. See Amazon UK’s desktop app help page.
