Choose the Roku Streaming Stick 4K if its Roku interface and included TV-control remote suit you; choose Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K if you prefer Fire TV and Alexa. Neither is a universal winner: both are 4K sticks, and the strongest choice depends on your exact model and region, TV and audio equipment, Wi-Fi setup, and current local price.
This comparison covers Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023), not the newer Fire TV Stick 4K Plus or 4K Select, and Roku’s Streaming Stick 4K. Manufacturer specifications and product claims establish the feature comparison below, but do not establish which stick is faster or more reliable in use.
Which streaming stick is better, Fire TV or Roku?
The better fit depends first on the platform and remote you want. Roku explicitly says its included voice remote has TV power, volume, and mute controls that work with most TVs. Amazon’s India announcement for its Fire TV Stick 4K describes Alexa voice commands. Those are meaningful differences in the documented feature sets, not evidence that one device has better app performance or is easier to use.
Before buying, check that a retailer listing matches the model you intend to get. Amazon lists a 2023 Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen) with 8 GB storage alongside newer 4K Plus and 4K Select products. Roku’s retail product page identifies the Streaming Stick 4K as model 3820R2; Roku’s developer hardware table uses 3820X2 for the Streaming Stick 4K hardware. Those are identifiers from different Roku listings, so do not assume they are interchangeable SKU labels.

Specifications such as storage and RAM do not by themselves show which stick will feel quicker. Nor do Wi-Fi labels settle which will perform better in a particular home: router capability, distance, obstructions, interference, and broadband all matter.
Does Roku Streaming Stick 4K support Dolby Vision?
Yes. Roku lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for the Streaming Stick 4K. To see 4K or HDR, the TV and the content must also support the relevant resolution and format; otherwise, playback follows the TV’s capabilities. A format on the device’s specification list does not guarantee that every title will use it or that every screen will show it.

Amazon’s May 2024 India announcement lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for the Fire TV Stick 4K covered there as well. Treat that as a region- and announcement-specific claim: check the exact model’s local specifications rather than applying it automatically to every Fire TV Stick with a similar name.
What’s the difference between Fire TV Stick 4K generations?
“Fire TV Stick 4K” can refer to more than one product in Amazon’s current range. Amazon’s specifications table identifies the Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023) separately from the newer Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and 4K Select. This comparison is about the 2nd Gen model, not those newer products. Verify the generation in the product title and specifications before ordering, especially if a listing shortens the name.

The Fire TV Stick 4K named in Amazon’s 2024 India launch announcement was introduced there at INR 5,999. That is a launch price for India in 2024, not a current price or a price that applies to other countries. Will a 4K streaming stick work with my TV?
For Roku, an HDMI port is required. A compatible 4K TV and compatible content are required for 4K playback; Dolby Vision and HDR10+ likewise require a TV and content that support the format. If the TV cannot display a capability, the Roku product page says output follows the TV’s capability. Check your TV’s inputs and format support before paying extra for a format it cannot show. How should you choose between them?
- Lean Roku if you prefer Roku’s platform and want a voice remote whose listed TV controls include power, volume, and mute.
- Lean Fire TV if you prefer Fire TV and Alexa, and the exact model sold in your market confirms the features you want.
- For either stick, match the product listing to the exact generation or model, check that your TV and audio setup support the formats you care about, and compare live prices in your country.
