Amazon CloudFront pricing for video streaming: what to expect. CloudFront offers two billing models: pay-as-you-go, where charges vary with traffic and configuration, and flat-rate plans billed monthly per distribution with published usage allowances. The flat-rate options listed by Amazon Web Services (AWS), checked on October 3, 2026, run from $0 to $1,000 per month at standard tiers; larger Premium capacities cost more. Neither model has a universal price per viewing minute: a credible estimate needs your data transfer, request volume, viewer geography, and configuration.
How much does CloudFront cost for video streaming?
For a flat monthly bill, AWS lists four standard flat-rate plans per distribution. For usage-based billing, the total depends on the current rates for the relevant regions, data transfer, requests, and features. The figures below are AWS’s published flat-rate prices and baseline allowances checked October 3, 2026; plans and prices can change, so confirm them on AWS’s live CloudFront pricing page before budgeting.
| Plan | Monthly price per distribution | Published monthly baseline |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 1 million requests and 100 GB data transfer |
| Pro | $15 | 10 million requests and 50 TB data transfer |
| Business | $200 | 125 million requests and 50 TB data transfer |
| Premium | $1,000 | 500 million requests and 50 TB data transfer by default |
Premium also has published configurable levels above its default capacity:
| Monthly data transfer | Monthly requests | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| 75 TB | 750 million | $1,450 |
| 125 TB | 1.25 billion | $2,250 |
| 200 TB | 2 billion | $3,500 |
| 350 TB | 3.5 billion | $6,000 |
| 600 TB | 6 billion | $10,000 |
These are plan prices and allowances, not an estimate of an entire video service’s operating cost. AWS-origin transfer to CloudFront from sources such as S3, Application Load Balancer, or API Gateway is covered or waived under the flat-rate plan terms. The origin storage and other parts of the platform still matter to the total.

Is CloudFront pricing fixed or based on traffic?
It depends on the billing model selected for each distribution. Pay-as-you-go charges vary with use and configuration. Flat-rate plans provide a monthly per-distribution price and stated request and transfer allowances. AWS says a deployment can use a mix of billing models across different distributions.
- Consider flat-rate billing if predictable monthly spend and bundled services suit the workload, and both your expected transfer and request volume fit the plan.
- Consider pay-as-you-go if you need more control over individual features, custom configurations, or a large predictable traffic spike that does not fit a flat-rate plan’s bundled terms.
The comparison is not just price versus price: compare transfer and request allowances, the features you need, and any services that remain separately billable.

What do CloudFront flat-rate plans include?
AWS describes flat-rate plans as bundling CloudFront with selected AWS services. Depending on the tier, those can include WAF and DDoS protection, Route 53 DNS, CloudWatch Logs ingestion, TLS certificates, serverless edge compute, and S3 storage credits. The feature set is not identical at every tier, and a plan applies to one distribution with up to one apex or root domain.
Some costs can remain outside the monthly plan. AWS identifies S3 storage itself, certain log storage, query, or delivery options, additional metrics, and Lambda@Edge invocations as possible separate charges. A video service may also incur costs for encoding, packaging, storage, application services, and components outside CloudFront. Treat the CDN price as one part of the budget, not the price of running a complete streaming platform.

Do flat-rate allowances cap traffic?
AWS says flat-rate plans have no overage charges and that their allowances are not hard limits. It also says it sends notifications when usage reaches 50%, 80%, and 100% of an allowance. That does not mean unlimited traffic at unchanged performance.
In a March 24, 2026 product update, AWS said it accommodates a first spike of up to three times a monthly allowance within that month. It assesses excess over multiple months; significant, prolonged excess may lead AWS to adjust delivery. AWS’s Developer Guide gives examples such as serving from fewer or more distant edge locations or adjusting performance. Budget for expected sustained use, and review capacity or the plan if usage is persistently above allowance rather than treating “no overage charges” as a performance guarantee.

How to estimate a video-streaming workload
Estimate delivered data
For an initial estimate of viewer data transfer, use:
Monthly delivered GB ≈ average delivered bitrate (bits per second) × viewer hours × 3,600 ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000,000,000

This is an explanatory estimate, not an AWS quote or guaranteed billing calculation. It does not include protocol or container overhead and does not account for cache or delivery effects. Use the average delivered bitrate and total viewing hours across the audience; do not assume the source video’s nominal bitrate is always the bitrate delivered to viewers.
Gather pricing inputs
- Estimate monthly viewer data transfer and request volume.
- Identify where viewers are located, since pay-as-you-go pricing depends in part on geography.
- Record the distribution configuration, cache behavior, and features you plan to use.
- For pay-as-you-go, enter the workload and configuration into AWS’s current pricing page or calculator and check the applicable service rates.
- For flat-rate plans, compare both requests and transfer against the published allowances, then account for features and services that may be charged separately.
There is no single CloudFront price per video-viewing minute supported by these plan figures. Two streams with the same viewing hours can deliver different amounts of data because bitrate and audience behavior differ, and their AWS bills can differ because geography, request volume, cache behavior, and configuration differ.
CloudFront costs versus a YouTube 24/7 loop
CloudFront is a content delivery network used to deliver content from an origin; its pricing is not a price for keeping a YouTube channel live. If your specific goal is to loop uploaded videos as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service for that use case: upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube, not camera footage, and is not a replacement for CloudFront as a general-purpose CDN.
Its first day is free with no card, and the monthly plan is $9.99 per month. See the StreamNeo plans or start the free day.
