To make Alt+Tab include windows on every virtual desktop in Windows 11, go to Start > Settings > System > Multitasking. Expand Desktops, then set Show all open windows when I press Alt+Tab to On all desktops. [Microsoft]
Set Alt+Tab to show windows from all desktops
- Open Start > Settings > System > Multitasking.
- Expand the Desktops section.
- Find Show all open windows when I press Alt+Tab.
- Select On all desktops.
- Press Alt+Tab to see and switch among open windows. Keep Alt held while pressing Tab to cycle through the choices; release Alt to switch to the selected window. [Microsoft]
The setting offers two choices: Only on the desktop I’m using limits Alt+Tab to windows on the current desktop; On all desktops includes windows from every virtual desktop. Choose the first for a shorter, desktop-specific switcher, or the second when you want to reach windows elsewhere without changing desktops first. [Microsoft]
If the setting is missing or the taskbar still looks different
Check the Windows version and settings labels
The path and labels above are documented in Microsoft’s Windows 11 guidance. If they do not match what you see, check your Windows version and the current Multitasking settings; the available guidance does not establish identical labels across every Windows version, language, edition, or organization-managed PC. Taskbar behavior is a separate choice
In the same Desktops section, Windows has a separate preference for which desktops the taskbar shows windows from. Changing the Alt+Tab option does not change that taskbar preference, so set each control according to how you want to switch between windows. [Microsoft]

Use Task View or switch desktops with shortcuts
Press Windows key+Tab to open Task View, which gives an overview of open windows and virtual desktops. Select a window to bring it forward or select a desktop to move to it. To move directly between desktops, press Windows key+Ctrl+Left Arrow or Windows key+Ctrl+Right Arrow; press Windows key+Ctrl+D to create a desktop. These shortcuts navigate desktops and are separate from the Alt+Tab setting. [Microsoft]
