AlmaLinux 9 and 10 now have an officially documented route to NVIDIA drivers and CUDA: AlmaLinux added packages for NVIDIA’s open GPU kernel module in 2025, and CUDA 13.2 later added official support for enterprise Linux-compatible distributions including AlmaLinux. NVIDIA’s CUDA 13.4 Update 1 Linux guide also lists both AlmaLinux versions as supported. The milestones cover related but distinct parts of the stack; they do not guarantee compatibility with every GPU or kernel.
What the new support means
AlmaLinux’s August 2025 announcement introduced packages for native NVIDIA Open GPU driver support on AlmaLinux 9 and 10, including Secure Boot support. It also described repository configuration for common NVIDIA userspace and CUDA components. AlmaLinux’s announcement gives the package route.
In March 2026, AlmaLinux reported a separate development: CUDA 13.2 added official support for enterprise Linux-compatible distributions, including AlmaLinux, and NVIDIA CUDA drivers would be available through an official AlmaLinux repository. NVIDIA’s later CUDA 13.4 Update 1 Linux installation guide lists AlmaLinux 9 and 10 among supported distributions. These milestones together provide documented driver and CUDA paths; the CUDA guide’s support matrix is version-specific and should be checked against the version you plan to install.

dnf install cudaThe release package configures the AlmaLinux NVIDIA driver repository, CRB, NVIDIA’s CUDA repository, and EPEL, according to NVIDIA’s driver installation guide. That guide also documents kernel headers and development packages, third-party dependencies, repository setup, rebooting, and package upgrades. Follow its current instructions for your system rather than treating the short sequence above as a complete setup procedure.
The workload matters: NVIDIA documents different package examples for compute-only and desktop use. Check the guide for the package variant and dependencies appropriate to your target release, architecture, and use case. AlmaLinux identifies nvidia-smi as part of nvidia-driver-cuda; after installation, it can help confirm that the driver is functioning.

What is—and is not—covered
The open-kernel-module announcement is specifically about the NVIDIA Open GPU driver path and its Secure Boot support. It should not be read as a blanket statement about every proprietary-driver scenario or older graphics card. Likewise, an AlmaLinux entry in a CUDA support matrix does not establish compatibility for every GPU model, kernel, or architecture. Check the current driver and CUDA documentation for the exact system and hardware combination you intend to use.

- Use the CUDA guide version that matches the CUDA release you are installing; the cited CUDA 13.4 Update 1 guide is the one that lists AlmaLinux 9 and 10.
- Confirm the GPU is supported by the selected driver path before installing.
- Check current AlmaLinux and NVIDIA package instructions, especially where Secure Boot, kernel dependencies, or desktop versus compute packages affect setup.
