AlmaLinux 10 can run 32-bit x86 (i686) userspace applications, but this does not make it a bootable 32-bit operating system: there is no i686 installer ISO or 32-bit kernel. The support first arrived in AlmaLinux OS Kitten 10 in April 2026 and reached the stable AlmaLinux 10 release with version 10.2.
What i686 support means in AlmaLinux 10
i686 refers here to 32-bit x86 userspace packages—the libraries and programs that run above the operating system kernel. AlmaLinux’s change makes those packages and container images available for workloads that still need 32-bit software. It does not add a separate 32-bit AlmaLinux installation target.
That distinction matters: run i686 applications or an i686 container on a supported host architecture; do not expect to install AlmaLinux on a machine using a 32-bit kernel.
How Kitten 10 support became part of stable AlmaLinux 10
| Release | What it delivered | Release suitability |
|---|---|---|
| AlmaLinux OS Kitten 10 | Package repositories and official i686 container images, announced April 16, 2026. The repository path includes 10-kitten/BaseOS/i686/os/, alongside companion repositories. |
Kitten was the initial landing point; its original release notes caution against using Kitten for production installations. |
| AlmaLinux 10.2 | i686 userspace packages for the stable AlmaLinux 10 release, announced in release notes dated May 26, 2026. The notes say the i686 stream will be maintained alongside AlmaLinux 10 architectures through 2035. | Stable AlmaLinux 10 release; the Kitten production warning does not describe AlmaLinux 10.2. |

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What you can use it for
- Legacy software: build or run software available only for i686, or use vendor tooling that depends on 32-bit packages. AlmaLinux names Arista EOS as an example of tooling with this kind of dependency.
- CI pipelines: test software against a particular 32-bit glibc version where the pipeline requires it.
- Containerized environments: run a full 32-bit userspace distribution environment inside a container.
AlmaLinux says the addition is not intended to change anything for users who do not depend on 32-bit software.

docker run -it --rm --platform linux/386 almalinux:10-kitten bash
The --platform linux/386 option requests the 32-bit x86 image. The command starts an interactive shell and removes the container when it exits. For packages outside the image, Kitten’s i686 repositories are in the official vault, including 10-kitten/BaseOS/i686/os/ and companion repositories.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What this does not provide
- No 32-bit installer ISO: there is no i686 installation image.
- No 32-bit kernel: the addition is userspace support, not a 32-bit bootable AlmaLinux system.
AlmaLinux Release Engineering author Eduard Abdullin stated in the April 16, 2026 announcement: “There is no installer ISO for i686; this is only about userspace.” See the original announcement. The separate production caution applies to Kitten as a distribution, not to stable AlmaLinux 10.2; see the Kitten 10 release notes.
