Neither provider wins outright, because they sell different products. Hostinger is the better fit if you want managed website hosting with guided setup and bundled site tools. Akamai Cloud, the current name for the cloud-compute service that was sold as Linode, suits you if you want configurable virtual machines and are prepared to administer them yourself. The two overlap only at the VPS and cloud boundary, so the first step is deciding which product class you actually need.
This comparison relies on each provider’s published documentation, feature lists and pricing as of 2026. It does not include hands-on performance benchmarks, and no independent test of uptime or speed is cited for either company.
Start by choosing the product class
Most readers searching for this comparison are deciding between two situations. In the first, they want a website online quickly, with the provider handling software updates, security patches and backups. In the second, they want a server they control, sized to a specific workload, and they are comfortable configuring its operating system and services. Hostinger’s official FAQ frames the first situation with the question “What is web hosting and why do I need it?”, and its plan page describes managed hosting as a service that handles maintenance, security updates and backups. Its VPS offering is positioned as self-managed for users who want more control.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAkamai’s compute documentation covers the second situation. Compute instances are virtual machines you size, deploy and maintain. If your need is a WordPress site or a small business website, you are comparing a managed plan with a server you must run. If your need is an API, a database, a build server or a custom application stack, the comparison is closer to a like-for-like cloud VM question.

What Akamai Cloud (formerly Linode) is
Akamai’s documentation now places its compute plans under the Akamai Cloud name and uses “Linode” as the name of its compute instances. For that reason, this article uses “Akamai Cloud (formerly Linode)” and treats the comparison as one about cloud compute, not about a standalone Linode brand. If you are searching for the Linode name, the same compute product is what you will be evaluating.
How the compute ranges compare
Akamai groups its compute instances into plan families. The ranges below are family-level limits from Akamai’s “Compute instance plan types” documentation. They are not a guarantee that every combination of memory, vCPUs and storage is available as a single instance.
| Akamai family | Memory | vCPUs | Storage | Provider’s positioning |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shared CPU | 1–192 GB | 1–32 | 25–3,840 GB | Development servers, staging servers and low-traffic web applications |
| Dedicated CPU | 4–512 GB | 2–256 | 40–7,200 GB | Production websites, high-traffic databases and sustained CPU workloads |
Those positioning statements are Akamai’s own. They are useful for orientation, but they do not establish how either family performs under your traffic.
What Hostinger sells
Hostinger’s US web-hosting page presents plan-level offers rather than raw machine specifications. The table below uses the figures shown on that page in 2026. Promotional prices apply to a 48-month initial term, and renewal prices apply after that term. Geography, taxes and the final checkout price can differ, so confirm the figures at checkout before you commit.
Rank #3
| Hostinger offer (US page) | Listed price | Listed renewal | Initial term | Included items shown on the page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premium | $2.99 per month | $10.99 per month | 48 months | Three websites, a free domain for one year, 20 GB SSD storage, weekly backups |
| Cloud Startup | $7.99 per month | $25.99 per month | 48 months | 100 GB NVMe storage, daily and on-demand backups |
Hostinger also states a 30-day money-back guarantee on the same page, and says its support is available 24/7 in multiple languages. The page includes customer testimonials, but these are promotional and are not independent evidence of service quality.
Billing: why the monthly figures are not directly comparable
The two companies bill on different logic, so a monthly Hostinger price cannot be set beside an Akamai hourly rate without adjustment.
Rank #4
Akamai’s hybrid hourly model
According to Akamai’s “Understanding how billing works” documentation, most paid services accrue charges hourly up to a monthly cap, and usage is rounded up to the next hour. Three points matter for budgeting:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- G8 dedicated Linodes, GPU Linodes and additional IPv4 addresses are billed for actual hours with no monthly cap, beginning July 1, 2026. That change is already in effect as of this article’s date.
- Resources continue to accrue charges while they remain on the account, even when powered off. Stopping an instance does not stop billing; you must remove the resource to stop the charges.
- Network transfer overages can fall outside the monthly cap, so a traffic-heavy workload can cost more than the capped compute line suggests.
Hostinger’s term pricing
Hostinger’s headline rates depend on the 48-month initial term. The first-term price is the lowest figure on the page, and the renewal price is the number you should budget for after the term ends. A user who expects to keep the site for a few years should compare the renewal price, not only the promotional one. Hostinger’s plan costs are fixed monthly subscription amounts, while Akamai’s costs track hours used and resources kept on the account.

Reliability, backups and locations
Hostinger’s technology page describes LiteSpeed Web Server, SSD and NVMe storage, hPanel, free Let’s Encrypt SSL and an in-house CDN. It states a 99.9% uptime guarantee per calendar month under its Hosting Agreement SLA, subject to exclusions. If a claim is eligible and filed within 30 days, the page says it may earn a 5% credit toward future purchases. This is a contractual guarantee from Hostinger, not an observed uptime result.
On backups, the same page says shared plans receive weekly automatic backups, while Business plans and above receive daily backups kept for seven days. Check the backup cadence and restore process on the exact plan you choose, because the page’s backup description is tied to plan tier.
Hostinger lists data centers in Europe, Asia, North America and South America, and says the selectable location varies by plan. Akamai’s compute documentation does not give a neutral latency comparison against Hostinger. If visitor geography matters, choose a location near your audience on whichever platform you use and test it yourself.
Quick Recap
Decision framework
Work through these five checks before you buy:
- Service type. Compare a managed website plan with a managed website plan, and a cloud VM with a cloud VM. A Hostinger shared or WordPress plan and an Akamai Shared CPU instance are not interchangeable.
- Control and skill. Decide whether you want guided tools and provider-managed maintenance, or direct access to the server with responsibility for its configuration and updates.
- Total cost. For Hostinger, use the renewal price over the expected life of the site. For Akamai, estimate hours each instance will run, include any instance you leave powered off, and add transfer overage risk.
- Backups and recovery. Confirm backup frequency, retention and restore steps for the specific plan. On Akamai, backup design is your responsibility unless you configure it yourself.
- Workload and location. Estimate CPU, memory, storage, traffic and visitor geography. Match the workload to a family or plan, then check the location available to you.
Which provider to choose
- Choose Hostinger if you want a website running quickly with guided setup, bundled site tools and provider-managed backups, and you accept a multi-year initial term and a higher renewal price.
- Choose Akamai Cloud (formerly Linode) if you need configurable virtual machines, want to size CPU, memory and storage by workload, and are prepared to manage the server yourself, including its billing lifecycle.
- Neither by default if your project is a production application that needs an exact price and performance comparison. In that case, compare the specific Hostinger VPS or cloud SKU against the Akamai instance size, region and expected hours before deciding.
